Expanding Metabolic Online Monitoring Capabilities in 96‐Deepwell Microtiter Plates by Combining Optoelectronic O2 and CO2 Sensors

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To increase the information content in early stages of bioprocess development, various technologies have been introduced for monitoring cultivations in microtiter plates (MTPs). Besides spectroscopical measurements, like in the BioLector technology, optical measurements with luminescent sensors, placed directly in the cultivation medium ...

MRI Predictors of Failure in Non-operative Management of Ulnar Collateral Ligament Injuries in Professional Baseball Pitchers

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2016
Objectives: Ulnar collateral injuries (UCL) of the elbow are prevalent among professional baseball pitchers. The decision on initial operative versus nonoperative management of these injuries remains subjective in many cases, with reported success rates ...

A narrow bandgap Schottky heterojunction Fe2N/CeO2 microneedle triggering sonodynamic reactive oxygen species storm for drug‐resistance‐free skin fungal infection

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Inorganic sonosensitizers suffer from inefficient electron‐hole separation, rapid recombination, and wide bandgaps in anti‐fungal applications. We propose MN@Fe2N/CeO2 to directly eliminate fungi without drug resistance. Combining semiconductor CeO2's advantages with Fe2N's high work function and activity enables efficient Schottky heterojunctions ...

RNA‐centric world of retroviruses: unravelling the molecular strategies of genomic RNA packaging

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Retroviruses constitute a unique group of RNA viruses that have profoundly influenced both evolutionary trajectories and biomedical research. Their ability to reverse transcribe and integrate into host genomes has shaped genomic architecture across species and contributed to our understanding of oncogenes, gene regulation, and RNA biology ...

The Dark Side of AI Readiness? Institutional Logics, Signalling and Carbon Transition Risk

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The influence of institutional environments on corporate sustainability is well established, yet how digital readiness restructures institutional logics and signalling mechanisms through which firms manage carbon transition risk (CTR) remains undertheorised.

Scalable catalyst production process for oleate hydratase whole‐cell biocatalysis

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
This study establishes a scalable lactose‐induced fed‐batch fermentation for an Escherichia coli whole‐cell biocatalyst containing an oleate hydratase. Operation at a higher growth rate markedly increased biomass yields while maintaining catalyst activity and was demonstrated at 150 L scale.
