IntroductionExtended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing Escherichia coli have become widespread among food producing animals. These strains serve as a reservoir of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and act as a possible source of infection to ...

Detection of extended spectrum B-lactamases in urinary isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae in relation to Bla SHV, Bla TEM and Bla CTX-M gene carriage [PDF]
Background: Resistance to contemporary broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotics mediated by extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) is increasing worldwide.

A degenerate PCR-based strategy as a means of identifying homologues of aminoglycoside and ß-lactam resistance genes in the gut microbiota [PDF]
peer-reviewedBackground: The potential for the human gut microbiota to serve as a reservoir for antibiotic resistance genes has been the subject of recent discussion. However, this has yet to be investigated using a rapid PCR-based approach.

This systematic review and meta‐analysis evaluated the role of primary tumor resection (PTR) in asymptomatic patients with unresectable metastatic colorectal cancer. Across 17 eligible studies including 9317 patients, PTR did not improve overall or progression‐free survival compared with chemotherapy alone.

Characterization of Environmental CTX-M-15-Producing Stenotrophomonas maltophilia [PDF]
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is a widespread environmental microorganism that has emerged as a significant opportunistic pathogen due to its intrinsic resistance to almost all available antibiotics. Forty-one S. maltophilia isolates were recovered from retail shellfish (Mytilus galloprovincialis ; 8 isolates) purchased at fish markets in Split, Croatia,

Antimicrobial activity of de novo designed cationic peptides against multi-resistant clinical isolates [PDF]
Antibiotic resistance is one of the main problems concerning public health or clinical practice. Antimicrobial peptides appear as good candidates for the development of new therapeutic drugs.

We compared the initial efficacy of denosumab (Dmab) and zoledronate (ZOL) in treatment‐naive patients with osteoporosis. This cohort study, based on TriNetX data, evaluated the risks of fractures and mortality using Kaplan–Meier survival analyses, with hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing bacteria are not detected in supragingival plaque samples from human fecal carriers of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae [PDF]
Background: The prevalence of infections caused by Cefotaximase-Munich (CTX-M)-type extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL-E) has rapidly increased during the past 15 years.

Discontinuing Long‐Term Denosumab in Treating Fragile Bone: Why, for Whom, and How?
Discontinuation of denosumab (Dmab) may be necessary due to adverse events or an unfavorable long‐term risk–benefit profile. However, accumulating evidence demonstrates pronounced rebound phenomena after withdrawal, most notably a marked increase in multiple vertebral fractures, and, in some reports, elevated mortality.
