Elinvar Materials: Recent Progress and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Elinvar materials, exhibiting temperature‐invariant elastic modulus, are critical for precision instruments and emerging technologies. This article reviews recent progress in the field, with a focus on the anomalous thermoelastic behavior observed in key material systems.

Development and Validation of a ReaxFF Reactive Force Field for Cu Cation/Water Interactions and Copper Metal/Metal Oxide/Metal Hydroxide Condensed Phases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
To enable large-scale reactive dynamic simulations of copper oxide/water and copper ion/water interactions we have extended the ReaxFF reactive force field framework to Cu/O/H interactions.

Enhanced magnetism of Cu$_n$ clusters capped with N and endohedrally doped with Cr

open access: yes, 2015
The focus of our work is on the production of highly magnetic materials out of Cu clusters. We have studied the relative effects of N-capping as well as N mono-doping on the structural stability and electronic properties of the small Cu clusters using ...

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Automatic Generation of School Bus Routes in Los Angeles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The goal of our project is to automatically generate school bus routes for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). We examined four algorithms, including two from the existing literature and two new ones that we developed.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Investigation of the oxohalogenide Cu4Te5O12Cl4 with weakly coupled Cu(II) tetrahedra

open access: yes, 2006
The crystal structure of the copper(II) tellurium(IV) oxochloride Cu$_{4}$Te$_{5}$O$_{12}$Cl$_{4}$ (Cu-45124) is composed of weakly coupled tetrahedral Cu clusters and shows crystallographic similarities with the intensively investigated compound Cu$_{2}$

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Adsorption of Cu(II) from Aqueous Solution on Fly Ash Based Linde F (K) Zeolite [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, 2014
The work focuses on the removing of Cu(II) from aqueous solution by Linde F(K) zeolite. The zeolite is synthesized from fly ash by hydrothermal process. The adsorption experiments discuss several factors including the optimal solution pH, zeolite dosage,

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...
