The performance of three water-based grinding fluids was analyzed and compared to a neat oil tested under the same process conditions. Light optical and scanning electron microscopy observations show the mechanism of metal deposition that leads to CBN wheel failure for water-based fluids.

This work compares the effect of cubic boron nitride (CBN) and multilayer (TiCN+Al2O3+TiN) coated tungsten carbide (WC) tools during the turning of spheroidal graphite (SG) nodular iron. Nodular irons have more ductility which is required in mechanical components that demand high fatigue resistance like crankshafts, cam shafts, bearing caps and clutch

In this work, novolac bisphenol‐F‐based vanadium–phenolic resin/modified zirconia (Bis‐VPF/m‐ZrO) composites were obtained successfully. In the preparation process, ammonium vanadate reacted with Bis‐PF resin to form Bis‐VPF resin with the VO chemical bonds.

Physico-mechanical properties (fracture toughness, hardness and its dependence on the temperature) have been considered of samples of composites of the cBN-Al system produced at a pressure of 4.2 GPa and temperature of 1750 K with the variable aluminum content of the reaction mixture and time of sintering.

Investigations of the residual stress distributions after CBN-grinding of several unalloyed and alloyed steels in the quenched and in the quenched and tempered condition show the following results: the residual surface stresses parallel and transverse to the grinding direction are in the compressive range and their magnitudes increase strongly with the

Chip formation in grinding involves high specific energy compared to other machining processes due to high negative rake angle of grains, adverse grinding process parameters and physical–mechanical properties of the workpiece material. This causes excessive friction between chip-grit and chip-bond interfaces as there are no free flow of chip between ...

Abstract This paper describes a comparison of tool life between ceramics and cubic boron nitride (CBN) cutting tools when machining hardened bearing steels using the Taguchi method. An orthogonal design, signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were employed to determine the effective cutting parameters on the tool life.

Abstract Cubic boron nitride (CBN) composites are usually fabricated by sintering abrasive particles and binder powders under certain temperature and vacuum conditions. As a result, the inherent geometrical inhomogeneity of the abrasive grains in the binding matrix becomes an important intrinsic characteristic.
