The spermatozoon ofCarybdea marsupialis(Cubozoa, Cnidaria)
Invertebrate Reproduction & Development, 2003The spermatozoon of Carybdea marsupialis (Cnidaria, Cubozoa, Carybdeidae) is a primitive sperm with a short pear-shaped head and a long tail. The head contains a pyriform nucleus, six mitochondria, two centrioles aligned on the major axis of the sperm, and an anchoring apparatus formed by a complex pericentriolar system and a pyramid-like appendix ...

The Ecology of Box Jellyfishes (Cubozoa)
2013The Cubozoa are poorly known compared to their scyphozoan relatives. This has partly been due to a limited knowledge of taxonomy, the rarity of some taxa as well as extreme temporal and spatial variation in abundance of medusae. The latter may reflect the small spatial scales of many populations. Although cubozoan medusae vary greatly in size, they are

Nematocysts (stinging organelles) are an important part of cnidarian identification, but the cnidomes of many species remain poorly known because of identification difficulties and confusing nomenclature. Currently, the cnidomes of 20 cubozoan species are documented in whole or in part (including four undescribed species and five newly described ...

Biology and Ecology of Irukandji Jellyfish (Cnidaria: Cubozoa)
2013Irukandji stings are a leading occupational health and safety issue for marine industries in tropical Australia and an emerging problem elsewhere in the Indo-Pacific and Caribbean. Their mild initial sting frequently results in debilitating illness, involving signs of sympathetic excess including excruciating pain, sweating, nausea and vomiting ...

Courtship and reproduction in Carybdea sivickisi (Cnidaria: Cubozoa)
Marine Biology, 2005Courtship and fertilization events in cubozoans have received little attention from biologists, and much of what we know about these processes is based on conjecture or scant anecdotal evidence. I set out to describe these processes in the cubozoan Carybdea sivickisi by observing mature medusae in vitro.

Field Behavior of Tripedalia Cystophora (Class Cubozoa)
Marine and Freshwater Behaviour and Physiology, 1996Cubozoan medusae are noted for behavior more complex than other cnidarian classes and for possessing rho‐palial sense organs that include multiple complex eyes with spherical lenses. Tripedalia cystophora, a small cubozoan medusa, was the subject of field observations in southwestern Puerto Rico concerning the role of its complex eyes.
