Shortcutting photorespiration: avenues and challenges toward realizing higher‐yielding photorespiratory bypass crops

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 2, Page 675-690, January 2026.
Summary Photorespiration is a major source of photosynthetic inefficiency in C3 crops. In photorespiration, the oxygenation rather than carboxylation of RuBP by Rubisco triggers an energy‐expensive pathway to recycle inhibitory byproducts and recapture lost carbon, ultimately reducing yields.

A comparison of Olpidium isolates from a range of host plants using internal transcribed spacer sequence analysis and host range studies [PDF]

open access: yes
Olpidium brassicae is a ubiquitous obligate root-infecting fungal pathogen. It is an important vector of a wide range of plant viruses. Olpidium isolates that infected brassica plants did not infect lettuce plants and vice-versa.

Photosystem Perturbation by Staygreen Mutations Confers Allele‐Dependent Defences Against Infections of Pathogens With Different Lifestyles and Abiotic Stress Tolerance

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 1, Page 585-603, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The staygreen (SGR) gene encodes the magnesium dechelatase that plays an important regulatory role during chlorophyll degradation. Our previous work revealed a nonsynonymous SNP (A323G) inside cucumber CsSGR that is responsible for multiple disease resistance (MDR), but the underlying mechanism is unknown.

First attempts of linking modelling, Postharvest behaviour and Melon Genetics [PDF]

open access: yes
The onset of climacteric is associated with the end of melon fruit shelf-life. The aim of this research was to develop practical and applicable models of fruit ripening changes (hardness, moisture loss) also able to discriminate between climacteric and ...

Drift Seaweed as a Multifunctional Resource for Sustainable Coastal Agroecosystems

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Soil Science, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The growing global population continues to intensify the demand for food and feed, thereby raising pressure on available soil and water resources. As a matter of fact, sustainable agricultural practices are urgently needed to reduce environmental strain while maintaining productivity.

Aphids associated with shrubs, herbaceous plants and crops in the Maltese Archipelago (Hemiptera, Aphidoidea) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A survey of the aphids associated with Maltese shrubs, herbaceous plants and crops was carried out. Sixty six aphid species were recorded from more than 90 species of host plants.

Mitigating Water Salinity in the Jordan Valley: Experimental Evidence for the Effectiveness of Electronic Water Treatment on Irrigation Water Quality and Crop Productivity

open access: yesAdvances in Agriculture, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Water salinity is a major challenge for Jordanian farmers in the Jordan Valley negatively impacting crop yield and soil health. One potential solution to this issue is electronic water treatment (EWT): a novel technology that uses radio wave transmissions to alter the electric charge of dissolved ions and prevent the build‐up of salt compounds.

Ligand‐Engineered Mesoporous Silica: Cutting‐Edge Architectures for Targeted Toxic Heavy Metal Sequestration—A Review

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The mesoporous silica (MPS) modified with organic ligands has been effectively employed since last decade as a nonconventional, highly efficient, and selective adsorbent for the removing of heavy metal ions (HMIs) from their aqueous media. Therefore, this research paper is focused on reviewing various research works carried out on the use of ligand ...
