Physiology of fresh-cut ‘Galia’ (Cucumis melo var. reticulatus) from ripe fruit treated with 1-methylcyclopropene

open access: yesPostharvest Biology and Technology, 2007
Abstract ‘Galia’ (Cucumis melo var. reticulatus L. Naud. cv. Galia) fruit were harvested at the three-quarter slip stage and treated with 1 μL L−1 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) at 20 °C for 24 h. The fruit were processed and stored as fresh-cut cubes and intact fruit for 10 d at 5 °C.

Microsatellite Markers Reveal Genetic Diversity and Relationships within a Melon Collection Mainly Comprising Asian Cultivated and Wild Germplasms

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Melon, Cucumis melo L., is an important horticultural crop with abundant morphological variability, but the genetic diversity and relationships within wild and cultivated melons remain unclear to date. In this study, thick‐skinned (TC) (cultivated subspecies melo), thin‐skinned (TN) (cultivated subspecies agrestis), and wild accessions were analyzed ...

Repeated domestication of melon (Cucumis melo) in Africa and Asia and a new close relative from India

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 105, Issue 10, Page 1662-1671, October 2018., 2018
Premise of the Study The domestication history of melon is still unclear. An African or Asian origin has been suggested, but its closest wild relative was recently revealed to be an Australian species. The complicated taxonomic history of melon has resulted in additional confusion, with a high number of misidentified germplasm collections currently ...

THE INFLUENCE OF THE HARVESTED MATURITY TO CANTALOUPE QUALITY CUCUMIS MELO L. VAR. RETICULATUS IN SHELFLIFE

open access: yesScientific Journal of Tra Vinh University, 2019
Maturity harvest, quality and the shelf life of fruits after harvesting have intimate relationships with one another, especially to the climacteric fruit group. Maturity harvest is the most important factor that determines postharvest shelf life and the quality of cantaloupe [1].

Fruit Quality and Fusarium Wilt Race 2 Resistance in Cucumis melo Breeding Lines and Their F1 Hybrids

open access: yesPlant Breeding, Volume 144, Issue 6, Page 875-885, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Cucumis melo, a sweet‐tasting fruit from the Cucurbitaceae family, is popular in global markets. While some varieties of C. melo are used for pickling or salads, melons such as cantaloupes and honeydews are consumed as a dessert. Desirable appearance, shelf life and palatability are crucial in determining a variety's success.

Resurgence of cucurbit downy mildew in the United States: Insights from comparative genomic analysis of Pseudoperonospora cubensis

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 7, Issue 16, Page 6231-6246, August 2017., 2017
Cucurbit downy mildew caused by Pseudoperonospra cubensis has resurged around the world in the last two decades. Comparative analysis of nine genomes confirmed the presence of two distinct evolutionary lineages. Lineage II that lacked genetic diversity had pathoytpes that have never been reported in the United States hinting to possible cause of the ...
