Gynogenesis in Cucurbita Species
2021The development of F1 hybrid vegetable varieties emerges as a result of a great effort, long time, investment, knowledge, and advanced technology. The first stage of hybrid vegetable breeding is obtaining pure lines. It is possible to obtain homozygous parent lines used in the production of hybrid varieties with traditional breeding methods.

Different AT-rich satellite DNAs in Cucurbita pepo and Cucurbita maxima
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1986The AT-rich highly repeated satellite DNA of Cucurbita pepo (zucchini) and Cucurbita maxima (pumpkin) were cloned and their DNA structure was investigated. DNA sequencing revealed that the repeat length of satellite DNA in Cucurbita pepo is 349-352 base pairs. The percentage of AT-base pairs is about 61%.

Squashes and pumpkins are important dietary sources of carotenoids worldwide. The carotenoid composition has been determined, but reported data have been highly variable, both qualitatively and quantitatively. In the present work, the carotenoid composition of squashes and pumpkins currently marketed in Campinas, Brazil, were determined by HPLC-DAD ...

A total of 16 squash accessions were characterized using morphological attributes and RAPD markers. Two dendrograms were obtained according to UPGMA clustering algorithm. A third dendrogram resulting from the combination of different data sets was also produced, based on Gower s distance and UPGMA algorithm.

2.2. Pigment synthesis in Cucurbita seedlings An analysis of porphyrin pigments in etiolated C. pepo ‘Miranda’ seedlings revealed that when subjected to continuous illumination (Fig. 4), Chl a content in the control plants increased gradually, as expected, while the level of Chl-GG, a precursor of Chl a, was low and did not change significantly during ...
