Tandem Duplication‐Driven Neofunctionalization of UDP‐Glycosyltransferases Shapes the Diversification of Triterpenoid Saponins in the Cucurbitaceae

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a chromosome‐level genome assembly of Siraitia grosvenorii and, through comparative genomics, uncover a conserved UGT73 tandem array driving triterpenoid saponin diversification in Cucurbitaceae. Crystalized SgUGT73AM30 further reveals the regioselectivity mechanism underlying its catalytic activity.

Fasciation in cucurbits

open access: yesVegetable crops of Russia, 2023
The article presents a literature review on fasciation in pumpkin crops. In almost all pumpkin crops, you can find such a phenomenon as fasciation. However, it is more common in cucumbers and pumpkins than in melons and watermelons. Fasciation (or crystallization) is a change that can occur in the morphology of plant organs and usually includes ...

Mehrfarbige und lichtintensitätsabgeschwächte Reaktionen von Proteinhydrogelen durch Photoregulierte Vernetzungsdynamik

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.

A distinct strain of tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus that causes mosaic disease in ash gourd and other cucurbitaceous crops

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Ash gourd (Benincasa hispida) is a cucurbitaceous crop cultivated as an edible vegetable rich in vitamins, minerals, dietary fibers and antioxidants. In a field survey conducted in the Udumalpet region of Tamil Nadu during 2019, the incidence of mosaic ...

Viruses of cucurbits in Panama

open access: yesJournal of Plant Pathology, 2013
[EN] The main areas of field-grown cucurbit production in Panama were surveyed for the occurrence and distribution of viruses in the growing seasons of 2006 and 2008. Notably, in 2006 only Melon necrotic spot virus (MNSV) was detected, while Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) was the most frequent in 2008 in terms of number of fields and samples analysed ...

Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows).

open access: yes, 2021
Abstract Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV) was first isolated in southern France in 1988. It causes, mostly in cucurbits, more or less severe yellowing diseases according to the season and cultivar. CABYV infects several weed species and is readily transmitted in a persistent manner by ubiquitous aphids that provide an ...

Detection of Cucurbit leaf crumple virus in Florida Cucurbits

open access: yesPlant Disease, 2008
In October of 2006, yellow straightneck and zucchini squash plants (Cucurbita pepo L.) with crumpled, curled, thickened leaves were found in St. Johns and Marion counties in central Florida, respectively. Both locations had high populations of the whitefly, Bemisia tabaci.

Multicolor and Attenuated Light Intensity Responses in Protein Hydrogels Arising from Photoregulated Crosslink Dynamics

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A fully protein‐based hydrogel integrated two orthogonal photoreceptors to enable reversible manipulation of stiffness with red/far‐red light and irreversible gel‐sol transitions with green light. Unexpectedly, high‐intensity red light results in attenuated stiffening and dark‐adaptation, arising from increased crosslinking dynamics in the ...

Polyploidization Impact on Plant Architecture of Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)

open access: yesHorticulturae
Plant architecture includes traits such as plant height, stem diameter, and branching pattern, which have significant impacts on yield and fruit quality. Polyploidization can bring changes in plant architectural traits in different crops along with other

Suppression of Chitin-Triggered Immunity by a New Fungal Chitin-Binding Effector Resulting from Alternative Splicing of a Chitin Deacetylase Gene

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2022
Phytopathogenic fungi have evolved mechanisms to manipulate plant defences, such as chitin-triggered immunity, a plant defensive response based on the recognition of chitin oligomers by plant-specific receptors.
