Transcytosis in cultured proximal tubular cells
The Journal of Membrane Biology, 1986Studies were designed to examine fluid-phase pinocytosis in proximal tubular cells. Canine proximal tubules were obtained from the band IV of Percoll gradient centrifugation of the dispersed renal cortex, and were seeded on collagen-coated polycarbonate membranes. Integrity of monolayers was confirmed by electrophysiologic measurements, and by scanning

Geographical and Cultural Proximity in Retail Banking

Endoscopic cultures of the proximal gastrointestinal tract
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, 1982The purpose of this study was to evaluate two methods of obtaining culture material under direct visualization through a fiberoptic upper gastrointestinal endoscope. Collections were made both with a wash pipe and a sterile brush through a sterilized Olympus D panendoscope.

Renin Regulation in Cultured Proximal Tubular Cells
Hypertension, 1996Abstract Recent studies have documented the presence of a complete renin-angiotensin system in the proximal tubule of the kidney; however, little is known about the regulation of renin in this proximal tubular system. Therefore, we performed the present studies to learn whether the behavior of the renin system in cultured ...

Politics of cultural proximity
2014This dissertation examines how the idea of cultural proximity is constructed in commercialized marriage and transnational family making among Vietnamese women and South Korean men. Based on ethnographic work in Vietnam and South Korea, my dissertation theorizes cultural proximity in the context of regionalization among Asia-Pacific countries, ethnic ...

Proximity, Organization, and Culture
2004Since the late 1980s a growing number of geographers and other social scientists have chronicled the apparent rise of post-Fordist economic systems (Scott and Storper 1987; Schoenberger 1988; Harvey 1989; Storper and Walker 1989; Boyer 1990; Storper 1997).

Chondrocyte cultures from human proximal interphalangeal finger joints
Journal of Orthopaedic Research, 2016ABSTRACTOsteoarthritis (OA) of the hand is a common disease resulting in pain and impaired function. The pathogenesis of hand OA (HOA) is elusive and models to study it have not been described. Chondrocyte culture has been essential to understand cartilage degeneration, which is a hallmark of OA.

Ifosfamide toxicity in cultured proximal renal tubule cells
Pediatric Nephrology, 2007Renal injury is a common side effect of the chemotherapeutic agent ifosfamide. Current evidence suggests that ifosfamide metabolites, particularly chloroacetaldehyde, produced within the kidney contribute to nephrotoxicity. The present study examined the effects of ifosfamide and its metabolites, chloroacetaldehyde and acrolein, on rabbit proximal ...

Cadmium nephrotoxicity in human proximal tubule cell cultures
In Vitro Cellular & Developmental Biology, 1989Human proximal tubule kidney cells grown in a serum-free tissue culture medium were exposed to concentrations of CdCl2 in a range of 0.5 to 10 micrograms/ml. Cells were observed from 1 to 20 d upon initiation of cadmium in the culture fluid. Both confluent and subconfluent populations of cells were treated and evaluated for cytotoxicity.
