Disruption of SETD3‐mediated histidine‐73 methylation by the BWCFF‐associated β‐actin G74S mutation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The β‐actin G74S mutation causes altered interaction of actin with SETD3, reducing histidine‐73 methylation efficiency and forming two distinct actin variants. The variable ratio of these variants across cell types and developmental stages contributes to tissue‐specific phenotypical changes. This imbalance may impair actin dynamics and mechanosensitive

Deleterious effect of TRIS buffer on growth rates and pigment content of Gracilaria birdiae Plastino & E.C. Oliveira (Gracilariales, Rhodophyta) Efeito deletério do tampão TRIS nas taxas de crescimento e no conteúdo pigmentar de Gracilaria birdiae Plastino & E.C. Oliveira (Gracilariales, Rhodophyta)

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica, 2008
This work evaluated the effects of Tris (hydroxymethyl)-aminomethane (TRIS) buffer and its interaction with nutrient concentration on the development of Gracilaria birdie, a common species on the Brazilian coast that has been exploited for agar ...

Toward a better analysis of secreted proteins: the example of the myeloid cells secretome [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
The analysis of secreted proteins represents a challenge for current proteomics techniques. Proteins are usually secreted at low concentrations in the culture media, which makes their recovery difficult. In addition, culture media are rich in salts and other compounds interfering with most proteomics techniques, which makes selective precipitation of ...

Motility of \textit{Escherichia coli} in a quasi-two-dimensional porous medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bacterial migration through confined spaces is critical for several phenomena like: biofilm formation, bacterial transport in soils, and bacterial therapy against cancer . In the present work, \textit{E. coli} (strain K12-MG1655 WT) motility was characterized by recording and analyzing individual bacterium trajectories in a simulated quasi-2 ...

Special carbon requirement of Spirulina platensis culture. [Translation from: Materialy VII Vsesoyuznogo Rabochego Soveshchanii po Voprosu Krugovorota Veshchestv v Zamknutoi Sisteme na Osnove Zhiznedeyatel'nosti Nizshikh Organizmov p55-57. Kiev, Naukova Dumka, 1972.] [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
By the industrial cultivation of blue-green algae, there very much appears the important question about their carbon nutrition. Spirulina grows within the range of pH value of medium of 8.5 - 11.0.

AN EMERGENCY CULTURE MEDIUM FOR USE IN PRACTICE [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1911
In general practice there are repeated demands for a culture medium which is, at the same time, cheap and easily prepared from the materials at hand. This is especially true when the physician desires to grow bacteria for the preparation of bacterial vaccines.

Identification of functional and diverse circulating cancer‐associated fibroblasts in metastatic castration‐naïve prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...

Serum-free media supplements carry miRNAs that co-purify with extracellular vesicles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, 2019
Recent studies on extracellular RNA raised awareness that extracellular vesicles (EVs) isolated from cultured cells may co-purify RNAs derived from media supplements such as fetal bovine serum (FBS) confounding EV-associated RNA.
