Endothelium-derived relaxing factor has been recently identified as nitric oxide. The purpose of this study was to determine if vasodilator drugs that generate nitric oxide inhibit vascular smooth muscle mitogenesis and proliferation in culture.

Contraction-induced cluster formation in cardiac cell culture [PDF]
Evolution of the spatial arrangement of cells in a primary culture of cardiac tissue derived from newborn rats was studied experimentally over extended period. It was found that cells attract each other spontaneously to form a clustered structure over the timescale of several days.

High concentrations of airborne particles have been associated with increased pulmonary and cardiovascular mortality, with indications of a specific toxicologic role for ultrafine particles (UFPs; particles < 0.1 μm).

In vivo IL‐10 produced by tissue‐resident tolDC is involved in maintaining/inducing tolerance. Depending on the agent used for ex vivo tolDC generation, cells acquire common features but prime T cells towards anergy, FOXP3+ Tregs, or Tr1 cells according to the levels of IL‐10 produced. Ex vivo‐induced tolDC were administered to patients to re‐establish/

FoxO1 signaling in B cell malignancies and its therapeutic targeting
FoxO1 has context‐specific tumor suppressor or oncogenic character in myeloid and B cell malignancies. This includes tumor‐promoting properties such as stemness maintenance and DNA damage tolerance in acute leukemias, or regulation of cell proliferation and survival, or migration in mature B cell malignancies.

Development of input connections in neural cultures [PDF]
We introduce a novel approach for the quantitative assessment of the connectivity in neuronal cultures, based on the statistical mechanics of percolation on a graph. This allows us to follow the development of the culture and see the emergence of connectivity in the network. The culture becomes fully connected at a time equivalent to full term.

Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Superior survival of ex vivo cultured human reticulocytes following transfusion into mice
The generation of cultured red blood cells from stem cell sources may fill an unmet clinical need for transfusion-dependent patients, particularly in countries that lack a sufficient and safe blood supply.
