Single-stranded endonuclease activity in the excretory--secretory products of Trichinella spiralis and Trichinella pseudospiralis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A novel acidic extracellular single-stranded endonuclease was demonstrated for the first time in the excretory-secretory (E-S) products of 2 species of Trichinella. Unlike the double-stranded endonuclease reported earlier, the single-stranded molecule is

Fungal biotransformation of the antihistamine azatadine by Cunninghamella elegans [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1996
The metabolism of the antihistamine azatadine by the zygomycete fungus Cunninghamella elegans ATCC 9245 was investigated. Within 72 h from the addition of the drug to 48-h-old cultures grown in Sabouraud dextrose broth, 95% of azatadine was biotransformed.

Influence of mycorrhizal developmental stages and plant age on rhizosphere mycoflora of Pinus kesiya (Royle)

open access: yesActa Mycologica, 2014
Quantitatively the population was recorded to be high around thc mycorrhizal roots. Some fungi were specific to different stages of mycorrhizal development.

Microbial Oil Production from Alkali Pre-Treated Giant Reed (Arundo donax L.) by Selected Fungi

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
This study aimed to evaluate the microbial oil production by three selected strains, Mortierella isabellina, Cunninghamella echinulata, and Thamnidium elegans, after fermentation of an enzymatic hydrolysate from alkali pre-treated giant reed biomass, in ...

Rhodosporidium toruloides cultivated in NaCl-enriched glucose-based media: adaptation dynamics and lipid production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In the present report and for the first time in the international literature, the impact of the addition of NaCl upon growth and lipid production on the oleaginous yeast Rhodosporidium toruloides was studied.

Unique species interactions determine the decomposition activity of fungal communities

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 570-584, March 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Fungal diversity plays a critical role in decomposition, a key process in carbon (C) cycling and ecosystem functioning. However, diversity–function relationships in microbial systems remain context‐dependent and challenging to predict.

Lipid Metabolism Optimisation in Ashbya gossypii to Produce Microbial Oils From Xylose‐Rich Feedstocks

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2025.
A multigenic strategy enhanced lipid production in a xylose‐utilising strain of Ashbya gossypii by boosting acetyl‐CoA and NADPH supply while blocking β‐oxidation. The engineered strain reached 60% oil content when grown on sugar mixtures simulating xylose‐rich feedstocks.
