Cupin-Type Phosphoglucose Isomerases (Cupin-PGIs) Constitute a Novel Metal-Dependent PGI Family Representing a Convergent Line of PGI Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2005
ABSTRACT Cupin-type phosphoglucose isomerases (cPGIs) were identified in some archaeal and bacterial genomes and the respective coding function of cpgi 's from the euryarchaeota Archaeoglobus fulgidus and Methanosarcina mazei , as well as the bacteria

Cupin: A candidate molecular structure for the Nep1-like protein family [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2008
Abstract Background NEP1-like proteins (NLPs) are a novel family of microbial elicitors of plant necrosis. Some NLPs induce a hypersensitive-like response in dicot plants though the basis for this response remains unclear. In addition, the spatial structure and the role of these highly conserved proteins are not known.

Iloperidone treatment mitigates the Juvenile Huntington's Disease phenotype possibly via Sigma‐1 Receptor Modulation

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
We investigated the potential of iloperidone as an activator of Sigma‐1 receptor (S1R) neuroprotective function in juvenile Huntington's disease (jHD). We tested iloperidone on cortical neurons differentiated from patient‐derived iPSCs, demonstrating that it acts as a S1R agonist, decreasing apoptosis, huntingtin aggregation, and oxidative stress ...

Exploring thylakoid emergence: evolution of membrane biogenesis and photosystem II assembly in early‐diverging cyanobacteria

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 3, Page 1329-1343, August 2026.
Overview of the results. Phylogenetic analyses of 36 assembly factors of photosystem II (PSII) and 13 proteins involved in membrane dynamics summarized in Siebenaller & Schneider (2023) were performed to investigate the taxonomic distributions and structural differences between the thylakoid‐less Gloeobacterales and the Phycobacteria. Summary Thylakoid

Emergent Chemical Reactivity and Complexity of RNA Condensates

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 52, December 22, 2025.
RNA condensates capable of substrate enrichment and catalysis modulate their environment. Could this start a catalytic selection loop or evolution? Abstract The RNA world hypothesis posits the existence of life‐like assemblies that consisted mostly of RNA.

Structure‐Guided Surface Engineering of an Artificial Metallolyase for Highly Enantioselective Michael Addition

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
X‐ray visualization of copper‐binding modes revealed nonspecific surface metal sites that compromise stereoselectivity. Structure‐guided mutations suppressed background reactivity and enabled precise enantioselective control in the Michael addition, delivering up to 99% ee.
