Clamp current transformers for noninvasive calibration of current transformers

2016 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings, 2016
This paper deals with a noninvasive calibration system of current transformers in electrical power systems. The proposed system requires precise current sensors located on the primary and the secondary side of the transformer. Current sensors were designed as current transformers with a nanocrystalline magnetic core.

A current transformer modeling

COMPEL - The international journal for computation and mathematics in electrical and electronic engineering, 2002
This paper presents the modeling of a current transformer by various methods with the FLUX3D software. The technique used is based on the finite element method coupled with electric circuits. A magnetic scalar potential reduced versus T0 formulation (T0ϕ−ϕ) taking into account the electric circuits with an air‐gap is used for this purpose.

Bandwidth of Current Transformers

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2009
Bandwidth is one of the important performance parameters of current transformers. Transformers are required to have adequate bandwidth to regenerate the measured current, apart from uncertainties that are caused by the nonsinusoidal waveforms along with harmonics.

Current transformer performance for inrush current in power transformers

Electric Power Systems Research, 1988
Abstract A mathematical model has been developed for a current transformer to predict the transient performance during switch-in of a power transformer with residual flux. Typical 50 - 100 - 200/1 and 300/1 current transformers have been simulated and the secondary current response has been computed for different values of the current transformer ...

An Algorithm for Compensating Secondary Currents of Current Transformers

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1997
Current transformer (CT) saturation may cause power system relays to malfunction. The conventional method used to deal with the problem is overdimensioning of the transformer core so that CTs can carry up to 20 times the rated current without exceeding 10% ratio correction. However, this not only reduces the sensitivity of power system relays, but also

A Milliampere Current Transformer

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1914
(1) It is pointed out that by the use of a current transformer having a primary to secondary current ratio of the order of 1 to 100, oscillograms can be obtained of the charging current of a single high-tension insulator or of a few feet of high-tension transmission line; that is, oscillograms of currents of the order of 0.1 to 0.5 milliampere may be ...

A wideband current transformer bridge

2013 IEEE International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems (AMPS), 2013
The work progress on a new current transformer test set at PTB is described. The operation range for the ratio based bridge is intended for frequencies from 16.7 Hz up to 20 kHz. Equal setups of magnetically shielded current comparators with primary windings for currents from 100 mA up to 5 A convert the secondary currents of the standard current ...
