One-sided curvature estimates for H-disks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper we prove an extrinsic one-sided curvature estimate for disks embedded in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with constant mean curvature which is independent of the value of the constant mean curvature.

All unitary cubic curvature gravities in D dimensions

open access: yes, 2011
We construct all the unitary cubic curvature gravity theories built on the contractions of the Riemann tensor in D -dimensional (anti)-de Sitter spacetimes.

Geometric realizations of Kaehler and of para-Kaehler curvature models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We show that every Kaehler algebraic curvature tensor is geometrically realizable by a Kaehler manifold of constant scalar curvature. We also show that every para-Kaehler algebraic curvature tensor is geometrically realizable by a para-Kaehler manifold of constant scalar ...

The solution supramolecular structure of α2 → 8 polysialic acid suggests a structural cause for its low immunogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
α2 → 8 polysialic acid elicits poor immunogenicity. Small‐angle scattering shows a supramolecular structure with parallel‐chain binding, although in different forms at μm and mm calcium. The major histocompatibility complex requires molecular weights around 2000 Da to produce antibodies, and 2000 Da polysialic oligomers will bind in these structures ...

Experimental Investigations on the Conductance of Lipid Membranes under Differential Hydrostatic Pressure

open access: yesMembranes, 2022
The unassisted transport of inorganic ions through lipid membranes has become increasingly relevant to an expansive range of biological phenomena. Recent simulations indicate a strong influence of a lipid membrane’s curvature on its permeability, which ...

BAR Domains as Sensors of Membrane Curvature: The Amphiphysin BAR Structure

open access: yesScience, 2004
The BAR (Bin/amphiphysin/Rvs) domain is the most conserved feature in amphiphysins from yeast to human and is also found in endophilins and nadrins. We solved the structure of the Drosophila amphiphysin BAR domain.

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Geometrical Properties of a Point-like Global Monopole Spacetime [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The aim of this paper is to study the geometric properties of the point-like global monopole (briefly, PGM) spacetime, which is a static and spherically symmetric solution of the Einstein's field equations. It has shown that PGM spacetime admits various types of pseudosymmetry structures, such as pseudosymmetry due to Weyl conformal curvature tensor ...

Experimental reconstruction of the Berry curvature in a Floquet Bloch band [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2015
Cold atoms do geometry Electrons in solids populate energy bands, which can be simulated in cold atom systems using optical lattices. The geometry of the corresponding wave functions determines the topological properties of the system, but getting a ...

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...
