Differential wavefront curvature sensor [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2005
In this paper, a wavefront curvature sensor is presented. This sensor is based on the measurements of the differentials of wavefront slopes, where the wavefront slope measurements can be achieved by a Shack-Hartmann sensor. A Shack-Hartmann sensor with three output collimated beams will be introduced with a lenslet array installed in each beam.

Self‐Calibrated Flexible Holographic Curvature Sensor [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies
AbstractOptical curvature sensors find regular use in deformation analysis, typically requiring pre‐calibration and post‐processing of the gathered data. In this work, a self‐calibrated curvature sensor based on flexible holographic metasurfaces operating in the visible range is presented. In contrast to existing solutions, the sensor can be fabricated

Differential phase tracking applied to Bragg gratings in multi-core fibre for high accuracy curvature measurement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
High resolution quasi-static and dynamic curvature measurements are made by differential interferometric phase measurement of fibre Bragg gratings in separate cores of a multi-core fibre.

Ultra-high-sensitivity two-dimensional bend sensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A multicore fibre Fabry-Perot-based strain sensor interrogated with tandem interferometry for bend measurement is described. Curvature in two dimensions is obtained by measuring the difference in strain between three co-located low finesse Fabry-Perot ...

A Novel Optical Fiber Sensor Based on Microfiber Mach-Zehnder Interferometer With Two Spindle-Shaped Structures

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2021
A microfiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MMZI) with two spindle-shaped structures was reported for measuring temperature and curvature. Due to the core-separated structure, the MMZI could excite more high-order modes, which improves the sensitivity more

Automatic sensitivity adjustment for a curvature sensor [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Optics, 2010
There are different techniques to sense the wavefront phase-distortions due to atmospheric turbulence. Curvature sensors are practical in their sensitivity being adjustable to the prevailing atmospheric conditions. Even at the best sites, the turbulence intensity has been found to vary at times over only a few minutes and regularly over longer periods.

Evaluating populations of tactile sensors for curvature discrimination [PDF]

open access: yes2010 IEEE Haptics Symposium, 2010
The high density of receptors in fingertip skin is a limiting factor for replicating tactile feedback for neural prosthetics. At present, the large size of engineered sensors and the dense network of neural connections from finger to brain inhibit duplicating the approximately 100 receptors/cm(2).

Real-Time Curvature Measurement Sensor for Active Steering of Railroad Vehicles [PDF]

open access: yes한국정밀공학회지, 2019
Conventional railroad vehicles, that run on a line with high frequency of sharp curves, have problems such as wheel noise and wear, from insufficient passive steering.
