Error propagation: a comparison of Shack–Hartmann and curvature sensors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Optical Society of America A, 2011
Phase estimates in adaptive-optics systems are computed by use of wavefront sensors such as Shack-Hartmann or curvature sensors. In either case the standard error of the phase estimates is proportional to the standard error of the measurements; but the error-propagation factors are different.

A High Sensitivity Three-Dimensional-Shape Sensing Patch Prepared by Lithography and Inkjet Printing

open access: yesSensors, 2012
A process combining conventional photolithography and a novel inkjet printing method for the manufacture of high sensitivity three-dimensional-shape (3DS) sensing patches was proposed and demonstrated.

Machine Learning-Based Multi-Modal Information Perception for Soft Robotic Hands

open access: yesTsinghua Science and Technology, 2020
This paper focuses on multi-modal Information Perception (IP) for Soft Robotic Hands (SRHs) using Machine Learning (ML) algorithms. A flexible Optical Fiber-based Curvature Sensor (OFCS) is fabricated, consisting of a Light-Emitting Diode (LED ...

Pitch and roll sensing using fibre Bragg gratings in multicore fibre [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We report the first use of a multicore fibre incorporating fibre Bragg grating strain sensors in each core as a fibre optic pitch and roll sensor. A length of four-core fibre supported at one end forms a cantilever.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

A Novel MZI Fiber Sensor with Enhanced Curvature and Strain Sensitivity Based on Four-Core Fiber

open access: yesMicromachines
We present a high-sensitivity curvature and strain Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) fiber sensor based on a configuration of no-core fiber (NCF) and four-core fiber (FCF).

Composed multicore fiber structure for direction-sensitive curvature monitoring

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2020
The present work deals with a curvature sensor that consists of two segments of asymmetric multicore fiber (MCF) fusion spliced with standard single mode fiber (SMF). The MCF comprises three strongly coupled cores; one of such cores is at the geometrical

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Instant curvature measurement for microcantilever sensors [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2004
A multiple-point deflection technique has been developed for the instant measurement of microcantilever curvature. Eight light-emitting diodes are focused on various positions of a gold-coated silicon cantilever through optical fibers, and temperature change or chemical adsorption induces cantilever bending.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.
