Error propagation in curvature sensors
SPIE Proceedings, 2010The effect of measurement noise on the phase reconstruction is here analyzed for curvature sensors. It is shown, that for a fixed extra-focal distance the phase variance depends only on the number of photons and is independent of the number of sensing elements. The error propagation factor is further computed for three different sampling geometries:

The UH wavefront curvature sensor.
Adaptive Optics for Large Telescopes, 1992Wavefront sensors currently used in adaptive optics operate only on relatively bright sources. One of the most sensitive sensor ever built is the Hartmann sensor of the European COME-ON adaptive optics system developed for infra-red astronomy [1]. It is equipped with an electron-bombarded CCD and can stabilize images on a 3.6 m telescope with a mag 13 ...

Differential Shack-Hartmann curvature sensor: local principal curvature measurements
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2008The concept of a differential Shack-Hartmann (DSH) curvature sensor was recently proposed, which yields wavefront curvatures by measuring wavefront slope differentials. As an important feature of the DSH curvature sensor, the wavefront twist curvature terms can be efficiently obtained from slope differential measurements, thus providing a means to ...

Using a cylindrical tactile sensor for determining curvature
IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation, 1991It is shown how contact curvature can be determined from a single contact with a cylindrical tactile sensor. When the tactile finger touches an unknown smooth convex surface, contact location, principal curvatures, and normal force are determined from a 4*4 window of strain measurements.

Magnetoelastic skin curvature sensor for biomedical applications
Proceedings of IEEE Sensors, 2004., 2006The present paper concerns the versatile applicability of a novel skin curvature sensor family for multiparametric monitoring of physiological parameters. The basic element of the sensor is a magnetoelastic bilayer which shows a magnetoelastic amorphous layer and a nonmagnetic layer.

Soft curvature sensors for joint angle proprioception
2011 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2011We introduce a curvature sensor composed of a thin, transparent elastomer film (polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS) embedded with a microchannel of conductive liquid (eutectic Gallium Indium, eGaIn) and a sensing element. Bending the sensor exerts pressure on the embedded microchannel via the sensing element.

Single-mode fiber curvature sensor based on SPR
Applied Optics, 2022A fiber surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor is widely used in high-sensitivity refractive index measurement, but there is less research on curvature measurement. In this paper, a single-mode fiber curvature sensor based on SPR is designed and fabricated. By employing bending, the transmitted light in the fiber core leaks into the

Soft actuators with screen-printed curvature sensors
2017 IEEE SENSORS, 2017Castable elastomers have been used to fabricate soft fluidic actuators and the technique scales well from prototyping to mass manufacturing. However, similarly scalable techniques for integrating strain or curvature sensors into such devices are still lacking.

Hybrid curvature and gradient wave-front sensor
Optics Letters, 2000A new wave-front sensor for adaptive optics that gives signals for the curvature and the two gradient components of the wave front simultaneously is proposed. The sensor uses quad cells placed at the foci of an array of astigmatic lenslets, giving three intensity-normalized differential signals.

Piezoelectric polymer curvature sensor for measurement of regional curvature radius of LV wall
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1988To evaluate regional myocardial function, we developed a curvature sensor for direct and instantaneous measurement of the regional curvature radius of the LV wall. The sensor is a bimorph of two sheets of thin piezoelectric polymer film. The relation between output voltage of the sensor and the reciprocal of the known curvature radius has been shown ...
