Protistan Plankton Responses to Variable Light and Upwelling in the Peruvian Humboldt Current System: Insights Into Community Dynamics Under Environmental Change

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
Our study reveals (based on experiments) the shifts in protistan plankton communities, serving as energy and organic matter source for higher trophic levels if the Humboldt Current System is affected by climate change as predicted by current models. This may have profound effects on fisheries in the Humboldt Current System.

Corticotroph Tumour Type Influences Clinical Behaviour in Patients With Nonfunctioning Pituitary Neuroendocrine Tumours

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 9, Issue 1, January 2026.
Harbouring a silent corticotroph tumour (SCT) compared to a silent gonadotroph tumour, being older at surgery and having a larger preoperative tumour were found to increase the likelihood of having postoperative pituitary failure in logistic regression analysis (n = 77).

IgD‐Expressing Mature B Cells Exhibit Enhanced Sensitivity to Glucocorticoid‐Induced Cell Death

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 56, Issue 1, January 2026.
Our study shows that mature B cells expressing IgD exhibit significantly higher sensitivity to glucocorticoid (GC)‐induced cell death. This elevated sensitivity is specifically dependent on GC receptor (GR) expression and is accompanied by enhanced activation as well as terminal differentiation of B cells.
