Geometrical analysis of thread milling – Part 1: Evaluation of tool angles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Thread milling is a method which is increasingly used for machining thread. For this operation, a helical interpolation is required. Furthermore, the thread mill is a tool whose geometry is rather complex.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Estimation the wear state of milling tools using a combined ensemble empirical mode decomposition and support vector machine method

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2018
Vibrational signals resulting from tool wear have non-linear and non-stationary features. It is also difficult to acquire large numbers of typically worn samples in practice.

Cutting Corners

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Mathematics, 1999
First of all in this paper some notions and terms are introduced: corner cut polyhedron \(P_n^d (\subset\mathbb{R}^d)\); \({\mathbb{N}^d \choose n}\) -- set of \(n\)-element subsets of \(\mathbb{N}^d\) (with nonnegative integer vectors); staircase; \({\mathbb{N}^d\choose n}_{\text{stair}}\) -- set of finite subsets of staircases from \({\mathbb{N}^d ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Machining performance of vegetable oil with phosphonium- and ammonium-based ionic liquids via MQL technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Thermo-mechanical loads are the main factor that influences the tool wear and product surfaces during machining processes. Lubrication in metal cutting is an effective medium to reduce frictional forces and wear on the tool-workpiece interfaces.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

The Bacillus subtilis signaling protein SpoIVB defines a new family of serine peptidases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The protein SpoIVB plays a key role in signaling in the sigma (K) checkpoint of Bacillus subtilis. This regulatory mechanism coordinates late gene expression during development in this organism and we have recently shown SpoIVB to be a serine peptidase ...
