Dry Forages: Process and techniques (OK-Net EcoFeed Practice Abstract) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
To obtain the best forage quality, cutting at the correct time is important, when cellulose and lignin content is not too high. During spring, cutting early is the best option to preserve forage quality; for grasses, the correct time is beginning of ...

A comparative study of using spindle motor power and eddy current for the detection of tool conditions in milling processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper investigates the use of the power of the driving motor of a CNC spindle in comparison to two perpendicular eddy current sensors for the detection of tool wear in milling processes. Monitoring the power through the current profile is a low cost

TRAF2 binds to TIFA via a novel motif and contributes to its autophagic degradation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
TRAF family members couple receptor signalling complexes to downstream outputs, but how they interact with these complexes is not always clear. Here, we show that during ADP‐heptose signalling, TRAF2 binding to TIFA requires two short sequence motifs in the C‐terminal tail of TIFA, which are distinct from the TRAF6 binding motif.

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Analyzing the Cutting Process of a Heated Flexible Blade in Extruded Polystyrene Foam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
For the “Free Form Thick Layered Object Manufacturing” technology that is being developed at the Delft University, it is vital that Extruded Polystyrene Foam (XPS) can be cut accurately with a heated blade. The shape of the blade is actively controlled

Application of the stability lobes theory to milling of thin workpieces, experimental approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The optimisation of cutting conditions in High Speed Machining (HSM) requires the use of a vibratory approach in order to avoid a fast deterioration of the tool and of the spindle, as well as a loss of quality of the surface rough- ness.

Modelling flan wear of carbide tool insert in metal cutting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper theoretical and experimental studies are carried out to investigate the intrinsic relationship between tool flank wear and operational conditions in metal cutting processes using carbide cutting inserts.Anewflank wear rate model, which ...

Surface conditioning in cutting and abrasive processes

open access: yesCIRP Annals
Cutting and abrasive processes affect the surface layer state of the components treated. This determines their performance in service. An adjustment of the surface layer properties would allow for enhanced performance. This paper introduces the influences of named processes on the surface layer state and their systematics.
