Marek's disease (MD) is a lymphoproliferative disease of domestic chickens caused by a highly infectious, oncogenic alpha-herpesvirus known as Marek's disease virus (MDV). MD is presently controlled by vaccination. Current MD vaccines include attenuated serotype 1 strains (e.g., CVI988/Rispens), avirulent serotype 2 (SB-1), and serotype 3 (HVT) MDV ...

Vaccination is thought to contribute to an evolution in virulence of the Marek's disease virus (MDV) as vaccines prevent disease but not infection. We investigated the effects of co-infections at various intervals between Rispens/CVI988 vaccine virus (Rispens) and very virulent MDV (vvMDV) on the replication and shedding of each virus.

Comparative 50% protective dose assays (PD50) of Marke's disease virus strain CVI988
Journal of Biological Standardization, 1981Six 50% protective dose (PD50) assays of cell-associated Marek's disease (MD) virus strain CVI988 were performed in five laboratories. Three strains of chickens and different batches of MDV CVI988 were used. The PD50 of cell-associated MDV CVI988 was found to be about 40 f.f.u.

CVI988, a serotype 1 Marek's disease virus (MDV), was used as an in ovo vaccine in specific-pathogen-free chickens to determine if this virus induces early posthatch protection against Marek's disease as has been shown previously for turkey herpesvirus. MDV CVI988 was injected at embryonation day (ED) 17 (group 1) or at hatch (group 2).

Studies were focused on two attenuated serotype 1 Marek's disease (MD) vaccine viruses, CVI988/Rispens (passage 42) and R2/23 (passage 105). Both serotype 1 vaccine viruses provided much higher levels of protection than the prototype MD vaccine, turkey herpesvirus (HVT); the best protection was generally provided by CVI988/Rispens when compared with ...

Several highly efficacious vaccines are currently available for control of Marek's disease, a lymphoproliferative disease in chickens. However, these vaccines are unable to prevent infection with Marek's disease virus (MDV) in vaccinated birds. This leads to shedding of virulent MDV from feather follicle epithelium and skin epithelial cells of ...

To evaluate and compare the immunoprotection between a meq-deleted Marek's disease virus (MDV) and CVI988/Rispens against MDV very virulent strain GX0101.In total 120 one-day-old SPF chickens were divided into 4 groups (30 each) and kept in 5 isolators with positive pressure-filtered air. At 1 day of age, 2000 PFU of SC9-1 was inoculated subcutaneously

Marek's disease (MD) is a lymphoproliferative disease of chickens caused by serotype 1 MD virus (MDV). Vaccination of commercial poultry has drastically reduced losses from MD, and the poultry industry cannot be sustained without the use of vaccines.

Marek's disease (MD) is pathology of chickens characterized by paralysis, immumosuppression, and the rapid induction of T-cell lymphomas. MD is caused by an oncogenic alphaherpesvirus, Marek's Disease Virus (MDV). Currently, MD is controlled through vaccination with non-oncogenic vaccine strains comprised of the herpesvirus of turkeys (HVT), or a ...

Probably the most effective current vaccine against Marek's disease is the live Rispens (CVI988) attenuated serotype 1 Marek's disease virus (MDV). It is unknown whether the currently available Rispens vaccines transmit effectively between chickens. To investigate the kinetics and shedding of three commercially available strains of this virus and the ...
