Damage evolution in cross-ply laminates under tension–compression and compression-compression cyclic loads

Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, 2022
Tension-Compression and Compression-Compression fatigue tests were carried out on glass/epoxy cross-ply laminates, with different values of the minimum to maximum load ratio R (−1, −3, −5, −7, −10 and 20). During the tests, the damage evolution in the 90° ply was monitored at the macro-and micro-scales.

Cyclic behavior of UHPFRC under compression

Cement and Concrete Composites, 2019
Abstract The research field of constitutive modeling ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) is in current development. Few experimental results were reported for the material under uniaxial low-cycle loading, and consequently, there is a gap in constitutive propositions to predict its behavior. Thus, one purpose of this research is

Model for Cyclic Compressive Behavior of Concrete

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1987
A new one-dimensional model for random cyclic compression in concrete is developed. The model determines several geometrical loci in the uniaxial stress-strain plane that govern the unloading-reloading curves. The model laws for reproducing the unloading and reloading curves are presented, by which the curves may be plotted graphically with no ...

Cyclic actions on compression bodies

Rendiconti del Circolo Matematico di Palermo, 1997
Motivated by studying the symmetries of compact orientable surfaces \(\Sigma(g)\) of genus \(g\), the author classifies the cyclic actions on compression bodies and finds necessary and sufficient conditions for a compression body to admit a \(\mathbb{Z}_p\)-action \((p\) is a prime number).

Dynamic Unconfined Compression of Articular Cartilage Under a Cyclic Compressive Load

Biorheology, 1996
To study the effect of dynamic mechanical force on cartilage metabolism, many investigators have applied a cyclic compressive load to cartilage disc explants in vitro. The most frequently used in vitro testing protocol has been the cyclic unconfined compression of articular cartilage in a bath of culture medium.

A new image compression-encryption scheme based on compressive sensing and cyclic shift

Multimedia Tools and Applications, 2019
This paper proposes a digital image compression-encryption scheme based on the theory of compressive sensing and cyclic shift, which use random Gauss matrix and sparse transform to compress the digital image, and then cyclic shift and diffusion operation are developed subsequently to the compressive sensing (CS) phase.

Reorientation response of endothelial cells to cyclic compression: comparison with cyclic stretching

Proceedings of the Second Joint 24th Annual Conference and the Annual Fall Meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society] [Engineering in Medicine and Biology, 2003
Cells undergo a combination of mechanical stretching and compression in vivo. Thus, it is of interest to compare cellular responses to stretching vs. compression. To study the responses to cyclic compression human aortic endothelial cells (HAEC) were cultured on pre-stretched silicone membranes and cyclically compressed at various strain rates (5%/s ...

Non-uniform sampling for compressive cyclic spectrum reconstruction

2014 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2014
We introduce a new cyclic spectrum estimation method for widesense cyclostationary (WSCS) signals sampled at sub-Nyquist rate using non-uniform sampling. We exploit the block Toeplitz structure of the WSCS signal correlation matrix and write the linear relationship between this matrix and the correlations of the sub-Nyquist rate samples as an ...

Analysis of plasticity in cyclic compression precracking

2023
Determining whether a defect will grow or not is of outmost importance particularly for railway axles. In this context, compressive precracking is an interesting procedure to get fatigue crack growth threshold. Using this method, specimens are precracked with both maximum and minimum compressive loads.

Cyclic Compression-Flexion Loading of the Human Lumbar Spine

Spine, 1994
The present study was designed to investigate the biomechanical behavior of the lumbar spine under controlled complex physiologic situations with chronic input. The objective was to determine the response of the human cadaver lumbar spinal column under repetitive compression-flexion forces.Studies have been conducted in the past to determine the ...
