Cyclic loading in stainless steel links under lateral loads

ce/papers, 2017
Link elements are dissipative devices in form of beam segments that are typically included in eccentrically braced frames (EBF) subjected to lateral loads and seismic hazard. Studies related to short links, energy dissipation and plastic hinge formation have been presented for carbon steel elements with several conclusions at material, member and ...

Lateral cyclic loading of single piles in sand

International Journal of Physical Modelling in Geotechnics, 2003
A number of tests have been carried out in the last few years at the LCPC centrifuge facility to study the behaviour of laterally loaded piles. This paper presents a centrifuge test programme of lateral cyclic loading of a single pile in sand. In these tests, the pile head fixity is free and the pile is eccentrically loaded since the point of load ...

Scour From Cyclic Lateral Loading of Piles

Offshore Technology Conference, 1989
ABSTRACT Two types of scour can be identified at piles supporting offshore structures:erosion of the sea bottom (sea-bottom scour) at obstructions due to oscillatory waves and unidirectional currents, andthe loss of soil around a pile due to the cyclic deflection of the pile under wave forces.

Single pile response to cyclic lateral load

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1982
An analysis is presented for the deflection of a pile in clay subjected to quasi-static cyclic lateral loading. This analysis is an extension of the elastic continuum analysis for static pile response, and allows for the reduction of soil modulus and yield pressure with increasing cyclic strain or deflection.

Cyclic loading of laterally confined concrete columns

Materials and Structures, 1993
The behaviour under cyclic load of stub concrete columns confined laterally by a novel method of reinforcement is described. The columns were confined by an orthogonal system of steel bolts, and were loaded axially in compression in slow cycles. These were compared with similar columns loaded to failure monotonically in compression.

Lateral Stress in Sands During Cyclic Loading

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1975
Laboratory data are presented of lateral stress (expressed in terms of the coefficient of lateral stress K) changes in dry sand in response to cycling of vertical and shear loads. The data demonstrate the variation of K with initial void ratio, vertical loading history and shear loading history.

Behavior of axially loaded pile group under lateral cyclic loading

Engineering Structures, 2003
Abstract In this paper, a hybrid boundary element technique is implemented to analyze behavior of axially loaded pile group under lateral cycling loading. Nonlinear material behavior of soil is introduced by a rational approximation to continuum with nonlinear interface springs along the piles. Linear beam column finite elements are used to model the

Calculation of cyclic response of laterally loaded piles

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1990
Abstract A numerical model based on discrete elements has been developed which calculates the cyclic response of laterally loaded foundation piles. The soil behaviour is modeled with the so-called HYGADE-element. This element models the gap formation around the pile, the degradation of the soil strength and the backsliding of the soil into the gap ...

A Device to Cyclic Lateral Loaded Model Piles

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2006
Abstract Model tests on small scale piles subject to cyclic lateral loading have been carried out with the purpose of simulating the pile soil behavior and its lateral resistance under environmental loads. An efficient mechanical loading system has been developed.
