Hybrid data-driven and physics-informed regularized learning of cyclic plasticity with neural networks

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
An extendable, efficient and explainable Machine Learning approach is proposed to represent cyclic plasticity and replace conventional material models based on the Radial Return Mapping algorithm.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

A combined experimental-numerical study to tensile behaviour of limestone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In this paper, a combined experimental-computational study of double-edge notched stone specimen subject to cyclic tensile loading is presented. In the experimental part, the load-deformation response and the local displacement field are recorded.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Closed form solution of the return mapping algorithm in elastoplasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In the present work a return mapping algorithm is discussed for small strain elastoplasticity boundary value problems with an exact closed form solution of the local constitutive equations.

Cyclic plasticity and fatigue of metals [PDF]

open access: yesLe Journal de Physique IV, 1993
This report is a survey of the cyclic deformation and fatigue behaviour of selected engineering steels and alloys. Emphasis is placed on the important roles of the cyclic slip mode and the stability of the microstructure during cyclic stressing and on the conditions of fatigue testing with respect to the failure mechanisms and fatigue life.

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...

Mathematical simulation of low cycle fatigue of high-loaded engine parts

open access: yesPropulsion and Power Research, 2018
The paper discusses main aspects of low cycle fatigue influence on the lifetime of engine parts. The importance and history of the problem, the main experiments and the effects impacting the low cycle fatigue of structural materials are described.

Non-proportional deformation paths for sheet metal: experiments and models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
For mild steel, after significant plastic deformation in one direction, a subsequent deformation in an orthogonal direction shows a typical stress overshoot compared to monotonic deformation. This phenomenon is investigated experimentally and numerically
