Experimental and numerical study of the evolution of stored and dissipated energies in a medium carbon steel under cyclic loading [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Lien vers la version éditeur: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0167663613000288To obtain robust estimations of the fatigue limit from energy-based fatigue criteria, constitutive laws must include a correct description of the energy ...

A numerical study of crack shielding and deflection under extensive plasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Experimentally observed crack deflection events in multi-layered material systems, occurring even under pure mode-I loading, are here simulated and explained through elasto-plastic finite element modelling.

Cyclic plasticity model for fatigue with softening behaviour below macroscopic yielding

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
Experimental observations have evidenced the insufficiency of yield surface definition via monotonic loading to guarantee adequate description of material behaviour under fatigue tests.

Cyclic J-integral using the linear matching method

open access: yes, 2013
The extended version of the latest Linear Matching Method (LMM) has the capability to evaluate the stable cyclic response, which produces cyclic stresses, residual stresses and plastic strain ranges for the low cycle fatigue assessment with cyclic load ...

Cyclic Attractors Are Critical for Macrophage Differentiation, Heterogeneity, and Plasticity

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2022
Adaptability, heterogeneity, and plasticity are the hallmarks of macrophages. How these complex properties emerge from the molecular interactions is an open question. Thus, in this study we propose an actualized regulatory network of cytokines, signaling

Circadian gating of neuronal functionality: a basis for iterative metaplasticity

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2014
Brain plasticity, the ability of the nervous system to encode experience, is a modulatory process leading to long-lasting structural and functional changes.

Cyclic plasticity and fatigue of metals [PDF]

open access: yesLe Journal de Physique IV, 1993
This report is a survey of the cyclic deformation and fatigue behaviour of selected engineering steels and alloys. Emphasis is placed on the important roles of the cyclic slip mode and the stability of the microstructure during cyclic stressing and on the conditions of fatigue testing with respect to the failure mechanisms and fatigue life.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

On the cyclic J-integral of a 3D semi elliptical surface crack

open access: yes, 2014
This paper investigates an approach for calculating the cyclic J-Integral (ΔJ) through a new industrial application. A previously proposed method is investigated further with the extension of this technique through a new application of a practical 3D ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
