Phenodeviants of the Lumpfish Cyclopterus lumpus (Cyclopteridae) and Their Survival

Journal of Ichthyology, 2019
Deviations in the development of the caudal peduncle in the lumpfish Cyclopterus lumpus are described. Data on abiotic and biotic conditions of lumpfish’s existence in the North Atlantic are generalized. The importance of a unique niche of lumpfish in the marine ecosystem, which allows fish with greatly reduced swimming abilities (functions) to survive,

Is cleaning behaviour in lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) parentally controlled?

Aquaculture, 2016
Abstract To investigate the possible family influence on sea lice grazing of lumpfish on Atlantic salmon, nine families of lumpfish (N = 360) with a mean (± SD) weight of 169.4 ± 8.3 g were distributed among nine sea cages (5 × 5 × 5 m) each stocked with 400 Atlantic salmon with a mean (± SD) weight of 123.3 ± 12.3 g.

Serum pigmentation in Cyclopterus lumpus L

Journal of Fish Biology, 1986
Female lumpsuckers, Cyclopterus lumpus L., have blue‐green blood serum and subcutaneous gelatinous tissue; the male's are red/magenta in colour. The female serum contains a chromoprotein with biliverdin as the prosthetic group; the male serum contains the same biliverdin pigment but this is normally masked by a red pigment, probably phycoerythrin.

Characteristics of a proteinase from ovarian fluid of the lumpsucker (Cyclopterus Lumpus L.)

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1988
1. A proteinase has been isolated from the ovarian fluid of the lumpsucker (Cyclopterus lumpus). 2. The enzyme was purified essentially to homogeneity by a one step purification procedure using anion-exchange chromatography. 3. The mol. wt of the denatured enzyme is approximately 20,000 as judged by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. 4. The enzyme

First estimates of age and production of lumpsucker (Cyclopterus lumpus) in Greenland

Fisheries Research, 2014
Abstract Lumpsucker (Cyclopterus lumpus) spawn throughout the North Atlantic, and are fished prior to spawning for its valuable roe. This is also the case along most of the Greenland coast, and lumpsucker is of great economic importance throughout the country.

Pathogenicity of Pasteurella sp. in lumpsuckers (Cyclopterus lumpus L.)

Journal of Fish Diseases, 2018
AbstractThe incidence of disease caused by Pasteurella sp. in farmed lumpsuckers in Norway has been steadily increasing in recent years, causing significant economic losses and fish welfare issues. The disease affects all life stages, both in hatcheries and after release into salmon cages. Therefore, it is important to establish robust challenge models,

Molecular immune responses of lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) to aeromonas salmonicida

2023
Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) have been utilized to biocontrol sea-lice (e.g., Lepeophtheirus salmonis) infestations in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) farms in the North Atlantic region. Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida is a Gram-negative facultative intracellular pathogen infecting several fish species, including lumpfish.

The Effects of Vertebral Deformities on Swimming Kinematics in Lumpfish, Cyclopterus lumpus

Integrative And Comparative Biology
Synopsis Vertebral deformities such as abnormal curvatures and shapes may influence kinematics of fishes during swimming. Our study examines the vertebral deformities of hatchery-reared lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) to better understand the effects of vertebral deformity on swimming kinematics.

Sucker action in the lumpsucker cyclopterusLumpusL.

Sarsia, 1990
Attachment in the lumpsucker is initiated by the contraction of a horizontal pair of red muscles (I) running between the sucker skeleton and the hyoid arch.

Observations on the colours of lumpsuckers, Cyclopterus lumpus L.

Journal of Fish Biology, 1989
Ripe unfertilized eggs derived from fish landed at two Icelandic ports were predominantly red and yellow‐red, but a small proportion were red‐purple. There was a significant difference between the frequencies of hues of eggs from the two landing places.
