Diversity and evolution of the Cydia pomonella granulovirus.
Eight new field isolates of Cydia pomonella granulovirus (CpGV) originating in Iran and Georgia and one English CpGV isolate were analysed for restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) and by partial genome amplification and sequencing. According to the observed RFLPs, most of the predominant genotypes of these isolates could be assigned to ...

The utilization of insect pest pathogens as biocontrol agents can serve as an effective alternative to chemical pesticides. However, pests can develop resistance to these pathogens, similar to resistance observed with chemicals. Identifying the genetic bases of resistance is a crucial step in comprehending the co-evolution mechanisms between insect ...

Abstract According to Article 12 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, EFSA has reviewed the maximum residue levels (MRLs) currently established at European level for the group of pesticide active substances dithiocarbamates. To assess the occurrence of metiram, ziram, maneb and mancozeb residues in plants, processed commodities, rotational crops and ...

Baculoviruses are used for pest control in agroecosystems, where parasitoids are present. We assessed whether parasitoids discriminate against virus‐infected hosts and examined the effect of the virus on parasitoid offspring. We found few indirect effects of the virus on the parasitoids, indicating that both agents can be combined.

The 2021 European Union report on pesticide residues in food
Abstract Under European Union legislation (Article 32, Regulation (EC) No 396/2005), EFSA is to provide an annual report assessing the pesticide residue levels in foods on the European market. In 2021, 96.1% of the overall 87,863 samples analysed fell below the maximum residue level (MRL), 3.9% exceeded this level, of which 2.5% were non‐compliant, i.e.

A 3.2 kb BamHI-EcoRI fragment of the Cydia pomonella granulovirus (CpGV) genome was subcloned and characterized. Sequence analysis revealed two complete and one partial open reading frames (ORFs). ORF7L is predicted to encode a 66.7 kDa protein (594 amino acid residues) that is 57% identical (amino acid sequence) to the chiA gene (ORF126) of Autographa

Microbial antibiotics take the lead in the fight against plant pathogens
The potential of plant microbiome for the development of novel biopesticides for the integrated pest management of agricultural crops. Abstract The plant microbiome is essential for plant fitness and health. Antibiotics produced by plant‐associated bacteria have been shown to play an important role in protecting plant hosts against phytopathogens. Here,

Study of the different evaluation areas in the pesticide risk assessment process
Abstract Both chemical and microbial active substances can currently be approved as pesticides in the EU, the provisions of their approval being set under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. Although sharing the same legal framework, chemicals and microorganisms used as pesticides have different risk profiles especially because once released into the ...
