Billiard knots in a cylinder [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, Vol. 8, No. 3, 353-366 (1999), 1998
We define cylinder knots as billiard knots in a cylinder. We present a necessary condition for cylinder knots: after dividing cylinder knots by possible rotational symmetries we obtain ribbon knots. We obtain an upper bound for the number of cylinder knots with two fixed parameters (out of three).

Electromagnetic Casimir Forces of Parabolic Cylinder and Knife-Edge Geometries [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev.D83:125007,2011, 2011
An exact calculation of electromagnetic scattering from a perfectly conducting parabolic cylinder is employed to compute Casimir forces in several configurations. These include interactions between a parabolic cylinder and a plane, two parabolic cylinders, and a parabolic cylinder and an ordinary cylinder. To elucidate the effect of boundaries, special

Experimental velocity fields and forces for a cylinder penetrating into a granular medium [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 87, 012201 (2013), 2012
We present here a detailed granular flow characterization together with force measurements for the quasi-bidimensional situation of a horizontal cylinder penetrating vertically at a constant velocity in dry granular matter between two parallel glass walls.

Sets avoided by Brownian motion [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1997
Any fixed cylinder is hit almost surely by a 3-dimensional Brownian motion, but is there a random cylinder that is in the complement? We answer this for cylinders, and then replacing a cylinder with a more general set.

Fermionic Casimir interaction in cylinder-plate and cylinder-cylinder geometries [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
In this work, we consider the Casimir effect due to massless fermionic fields in the presence of long cylinders. More precisely, we consider the interaction between a cylinder parallel to a plate, between two parallel cylinders outside each other, and between a cylinder lying parallelly inside another cylinder.

Collapsing Bacterial Cylinders [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 1999
Under special conditions bacteria excrete an attractant and aggregate. The high density regions initially collapse into cylindrical structures, which subsequently destabilize and break up into spherical aggregates.

Undulated cylinders of charged diblock copolymers [PDF]

open access: yesEur. Phys. J. E 20, 335 (2006), 2006
We study the cylinder to sphere morphological transition of diblock copolymers in aqueous solution with a hydrophobic block and a charged block. We find a metastable undulated cylinder configuration for a range of charge and salt concentrations which, nevertheless, occurs above the threshold where spheres are thermodynamically favorable.

Scalar cylinder-plate and cylinder-cylinder Casimir interaction in higher dimensional spacetime [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We study the cylinder-plate and the cylinder-cylinder Casimir interaction in the $(D+1)$-dimensional Minkowski spacetime due to the vacuum fluctuations of massless scalar fields. Different combinations of Dirichlet (D) and Neumann (N) boundary conditions are imposed on the two interacting objects.

Thermoelastic analysis of FGM hollow cylinder for variable parameters and temperature distributions using FEM

open access: yesNonlinear Engineering, 2020
This paper presents, numerical study of stress field in functionally graded material (FGM) hollow cylinder by using finite element method (FEM). The FGM cylinder is subjected to internal pressure and uniform heat generation.

Modelling one-dimensional elastic diffusion processes in an orthotropic solid cylinder under unsteady volumetric perturbations [PDF]

open access: yesVestnik Samarskogo Gosudarstvennogo Tehničeskogo Universiteta. Seriâ: Fiziko-Matematičeskie Nauki, 2022
A polar-symmetric elastic diffusion problem is considered for an orthotropic multicomponent homogeneous cylinder under uniformly distributed radial unsteady volumetric perturbations.
