CYP2E1-Dependent Toxicity and Up-Regulation of Antioxidant Genes

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2001
Induction of cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) by ethanol appears to be one of the central pathways by which ethanol generates a state of oxidative stress. Glutathione (GSH) is critical in preserving the proper cellular redox balance and for its role as a cellular protectant.

Tissue-Specific Expression and Methylation of the Human CYP2E1 Gene

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1994
The level and number of CYP2E1 gene transcripts were investigated by northern blot analysis in various human adult tissues including liver, lung, placenta, skin and neurinoma. Three transcripts of 1.8, 2.6 and 4 Kb were expressed in a tissue-specific manner.

Expression of CYP2E1 During Human Fetal Development: Methylation of the CYP2E1 Gene in Human Fetal and Adult Liver Samples

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1992
The expression and regulation of cytochrome P450IIE1 (CYP2E1) in adult and fetal human liver has been investigated. Three mRNA transcripts of 1.9, 2.7 and 3.8 kb were detected in all adult liver samples after hybridization with a full length cDNA to CYP2E1 whereas no expression was detected in 12 fetal liver samples studied.

Study of Polymorphisms in the CYP2E1 Gene in Patients With Alcoholic Pancreatitis

Alcohol, 2001
Cytochrome P450IIEI (CYP2E1) is an ethanol-inducible enzyme. Recently, several novel polymorphisms in the CYP2E1 gene have been identified. A polymorphism at position -35 [G(-35)T] appears to be of functional significance in transcription assays. The aim of this study was to investigate if this and other polymorphisms, at position -1019 [C(-1019)T ...

Polymorphism of Metabolizing Genes and Lung Cancer Histology: Prevalence of CYP2E1 in Adenocarcinoma

Cancer Letters, 1997
The relationship between genetic predisposition and development of specific cancers has not been adequately elucidated. In this study, the involvement of three polymorphic genes (CYP2E1, GSTM1, and GSTT1) in the development of different histological types of lung cancer was investigated.
