Beneficial effects of cysteamine in Thy1-α-Syn mice and induced pluripotent stem cells with a SNCA gene triplication

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2020
A number of publications have reported that cysteamine has significant therapeutic effects on several aspects of Parkinson's disease (PD)-related pathology but none of these studies have evaluated its impact on pathological forms of α-Synuclein (α-Syn ...

The specificity of cysteamine oxygenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1975
Oxidation of cysteamine to hypotaurine is catalyzed by cysteamine oxygenase (EC 1.13.11.19), a non-heme iron enzyme of large distribution [l-3] . A similar oxidation of cysteine to cysteine sulfinic acid has been reported to require a different oxygenase [4,.5]. Specificity of cysteamine oxygenase has been studied earlier in this laboratory by assaying

Beyond the Fixed Charge: A New On‐Tissue Derivatisation Strategy Employing Photoionisable Chromophores for Mass Spectrometry Imaging of Amino‐Containing Metabolites

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We introduce a novel chemical derivatisation strategy for the UV‐activated detection of elusive metabolites. Incorporation of a tocopherol‐active chromophore allows for the detection of tagged analytes as photoionised radical cations, selectively induced by a 266 nm laser.

A Voltammetric Sensor Based on NiO Nanoparticle-Modified Carbon-Paste Electrode for Determination of Cysteamine in the Presence of High Concentration of Tryptophan

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2013
A carbon-paste electrode modified with ferrocenecarboxaldehyde and NiO nanoparticle (NiO/NPs) was used for the sensitive and selective voltammetric determination of cysteamine in the presence of tryptophan.

Synthesis Of Some Novel Silver-Cysteamine Complexes

open access: yesMolecules, 2000
The aim of this research was to synthesize some new silver-cysteamine complexes of potential biological interest. Reactions were carried out between silver nitrate and cysteamine (2-aminoethanethiol hydrochloride) under different conditions of pH and ...

Cysteamine in Maturation Medium Enhances Nuclear Maturation and Fertilization Rate of Sheep Oocytes In Vitro

open access: yesHayati Journal of Biosciences, 2020
Low nuclear maturation and fertilization rate is one obstacle in the in vitro embryo production which decrease embryo yield. This problem is presumable related with high production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during maturation process.

Synthesis of Six Natural Products Enabled by Selective Hydroxylation of Orcinaldehyde‐Like Substrates With an Enzyme Library

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Achieving selective (sp3)C–H hydroxylation can streamline the synthesis of complex organic molecules. Biocatalysis presents an opportunity to realize this transformation, however, identifying useful enzymes that enable synthetic strategies can be a challenge due to limitations in enzyme substrate scope.

Limitations and Challenges in the Stability of Cysteamine Eye Drop Compounded Formulations

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2021
Accumulation of cystine crystals in the cornea of patients suffering from cystinosis is considered pathognomonic and can lead to severe ocular complications.

Repression of Virulence in Staphylococcus aureus by 2‐Aminothiol‐Mediated Quorum Quenching

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Simple analogues of cysteine that can eliminate the native autoinducing peptides (AIPs) of staphylococci extracellularly, before they activate their receptor, and turn off quorum sensing in different Staphylococcus aureus. The elimination of AIPs occurs through a mechanism similar to native chemical ligation (NCL). Further, this strategy showed promise
