Endoplasmic reticulum KDEL-tailed cysteine endopeptidase 1 of Arabidopsis (AtCEP1) is involved in pathogen defense

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2014
Programmed cell death (PCD) is a genetically determined process in all multicellular organisms. Plant PCD is effected by a unique group of papain-type cysteine endopeptidases (CysEP) with a C-terminal KDEL endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retention signal ...

Two New Cysteine Endopeptidases Obtained from the Latex of Araujia hortorum Fruits

open access: yesJournal of Protein Chemistry, 2001
Two new endopeptidases were purified to homogeneity from the latex of Araujia hortorum fruits by a simple purification procedure involving ultracentrifugation and ion exchange chromatography. Molecular weights of araujiain h II and araujiain h III were 23,718 and 23546 (mass spectrometry), respectively.

Positional scanning and computational modeling reveal determinants of legumain transpeptidase activity. [PDF]

open access: yesProtein Sci
Abstract Legumain is a lysosomal cysteine protease that plays a central role in antigen processing for MHC class II presentation. Beyond its canonical proteolytic activity, legumain can also function as a peptide ligase or transpeptidase. This non‐canonical activity becomes particularly relevant under pathophysiological conditions such as cancer and ...

Intracellular Porphyromonas gingivalis Promotes the Proliferation of Colorectal Cancer Cells via the MAPK/ERK Signaling Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2020
Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) is a keystone pathogen in periodontitis. However, several clinical studies have revealed an enrichment of P. gingivalis in the stool samples and colorectal mucosa of colorectal cancer patients.

Identification and Characterization of a Rice Cysteine Endopeptidase that Digests Glutelin [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1996
Little or no endopeptidase activity was detected in extracts from storage organs of dark‐grown rice seeds until day 6 or post‐imbibition, and the activity expressed per seed increased notably after day 9, reached a maximum on day 18, then decreased.

Novel broad-spectrum activity-based probes to profile malarial cysteine proteases.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Clan CA cysteine proteases, also known as papain-like proteases, play important roles throughout the malaria parasite life cycle and are therefore potential drug targets to treat this disease and prevent its transmission. In order to study the biological

Functional and Bioactive Properties of Wheat Protein Fractions: Impact of Digestive Enzymes on Antioxidant, α-Amylase, and Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibition Potential

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
This research aimed to determine the biofunctional properties of wheat flour (WF) protein fractions and modifications to the antioxidant, anti-α-amylase and anti-angiotensin-I converting enzyme (ACE) activities induced by the action of digestive ...

A Boophilus microplus vitellin-degrading cysteine endopeptidase [PDF]

open access: yesParasitology, 2003
Here we describe the purification and characterization of a vitellin (VT) degrading cysteine endopeptidase (VTDCE) from eggs of the hard tick Boophilus microplus. A homogeneous enzyme preparation was obtained by chromatographic fractionation on ion-exchange and gel filtration columns and an autolysis step.

Computational investigation of conformational variability and allostery in cathepsin K and other related peptidases.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Allosteric targeting is progressively gaining ground as a strategy in drug design. Its success, however, depends on our knowledge of the investigated system.
