Interstitial cystitis

open access: yesJournal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 2004
Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a debilitating chronic inflammatory disorder of the bladder. It affects predominantly middle-aged Caucasian women. The diagnosis, made from the combination of symptoms, cystoscopic findings and bladder biopsies, is often delayed in the gynaecology setting because of a low index of suspicion.

Early severe inflammatory responses to uropathogenic E. coli predispose to chronic and recurrent urinary tract infection. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2010
Chronic infections are an increasing problem due to the aging population and the increase in antibiotic resistant organisms. Therefore, understanding the host-pathogen interactions that result in chronic infection is of great importance.

NLRP3+ macrophages aggravate inflammatory cystitis in diabetes

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Inflammatory macrophages play a pivotal role in the progression of inflammatory cystitis. Formation of NOD-, LRR- and PYD domains-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome triggers the activation of caspase-1/IL-1β signaling cascades to mediate ...

Neuronal Dual Leucine Zipper Kinase Mediates Inflammatory and Nociceptive Responses in Cyclophosphamide-Induced Cystitis

open access: yesJournal of Innate Immunity, 2021
Interstitial cystitis is associated with neurogenic inflammation and neuropathic bladder pain. Dual leucine zipper kinase (DLK) expressed in sensory neurons is implicated in neuropathic pain.
