Diversely Functionalised Cytochalasins through Mutasynthesis and Semi‐Synthesis
Mutasynthesis of pyrichalasin H from Magnaporthe grisea NI980 yielded a series of unprecedented 4'-substituted cytochalasin analogues in titres as high as the wild-type system (≈60 mg L-1 ).

Structure of cytochalasins and cytochalasin B binding sites in human erythrocyte membranes
Biochemistry, 1980Twenty cytochalasins were tested for binding to and for inhibition of glucose transport in human erythrocyte membrane. In this membrane three cytochalasin B (CB) binding sites have been identified. All but three of the cytochalasins bind at site II. On the other hand, only nine of them, which are structurally closely related, bind at site I and inhibit

Abstract Cytochalasin A (CA) inhibits (Ki - 1 to 3 µM) phytomitogen-induced human lymphocyte proliferation. This effect requires the presence of CA at the initial phase of the exposure of lymphocytes to mitogen. In contrast with the effects of Cytochalasin B, C, D, E, G, and H, this effect is irreversible; cells after short-term ...

Enhancement of viral infectivity by cytochalasin
Virology, 1973Abstract Cytochalasins B and D enhance the infectivity of poliovirus; a 5-fold increase in viral titer occurs on treatment of cells with 4–6 μg/ml of either congener. At lower concentrations, however, CD is more effective than CB in increasing the infectibility of cells.

Teratogenicity of cytochalasin D in the mouse
Teratology, 1977AbstractCytochalasin D, a mold metabolite identified in food, was injected intraperitoneally in doses of 0.4 to 0.9 mg per kilogram on gestational days 7 through 11 and produced evidence of teratogenicity in two out of three strains of mice. Exencephaly, hypognathia and axial skeletal defects were found in strains C57BL/6J and BALB/c while no increase ...

AbstractCytochalasin B (CB) was able to compete with tritiated cytochalasin D (3H‐CD) for binding sites in HEp‐2 cells. The pattern of inhibition suggested that CB associates with a low affinity class of CD binding sites. Glucose and maltose did not inhibit binding of 3H‐CD to isolated HEp‐2 plasma membrane.

The reaction of cytochalasin a with sulfhydryl groups
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1976Abstract The reaction of cytochalasin A with sulfhydryl groups was examined. Cysteine and glutathione reacted readily with cytochalasin A at pH 7.0, 20°C, following second-order kinetics with rate constants of 7,600 M −1 sec −1 and 870 × 10 3 M −1 sec −1 . No reaction of cytochalasin B could be demonstrated under the same conditions. The reaction

The structures of cytochalasins A and B
Journal of the Chemical Society C: Organic, 1967The structures of cytochalasins A and B, metabolites of Helminthosporium dematioideum showing novel effects on mammalian cells, have been determined. Cytochalasin B is identical with phomin. (–)-α-Methyladipic acid is shown to have the R-configuration contrary to a previous assignment; the absolute configurations of the Nupheus alkaloids therefore ...

Binding of cytochalasin B to platelets
Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 1989AbstractThe binding of cytochalasin B (CB) to human platelets and to isolated platelet cytosol and membranes has been analyzed with [3H]CB. High‐ and low affinity classes of saturable binding sites were associated with intact platelets. Binding at very low concentrations of CB (i.e., high‐affinity binding) was partially prevented by 100 mM D‐galatose ...
