Oxidative Phosphorylation in Uncoupled Mitochondria
Brown adipose tissue (BAT) mediates non‐shivering thermogenesis (NST) through activation of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1). Due to the uncoupled nature of BAT, oxidative phosphorylation is an underappreciated contributor to NST. Here, we discuss the implications of Inhibitory Factor 1 modulation, an endogenous inhibitor of ATP synthase, for BAT physiology.

Recently, Singh et al. studied the influence of reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation by the ETC on mitochondrial morphology in baker's yeast. Their findings highlight evolutionary constraints, important trade‐offs using different metabolic substrates, and connections with points of entry into the ETC, ROS production, the FADH2/NADH ratio concept ...

Exploring Multi‐Organ Crosstalk via the TissUse HUMIMIC Chip System: Lessons Learnt So Far
ABSTRACT Three‐dimensional (3D) in vitro cell culture models have revolutionized biomedical research by mimicking the complex 3D in vivo environment in the human body. Different types of 3D models have been established, including heterotypic systems such as, organ‐on‐a‐chips which have been further developed into multiorgan‐on‐chip systems that ...

How do disproportionation reactions occur in high‐valent metal‐oxo species? We aim to describe the reaction mechanism of how a synthetic MnIVO‐porphyrin species disproportionates to a formal MnV and MnIII species, using density functional theory.
