Analysis of Squash Smear Cytology of Ependymomas

Acta Cytologica, 2012
Background: Ependymomas constitute 8–10 and 1–3% of central nervous system tumors in children and adults, respectively. Though intraoperative squash smear cytology is well documented, grading is rarely described. Objectives: (1) To assess cytomorphology and grade ependymomas in squash smears. (2) To compare utility

Cytological-energy analysis of pleural effusions

Annals of Clinical Biochemistry: International Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2019
Background Simultaneous cytological and metabolic investigation of the pleural effusion provides clinically relevant information about the type and intensity of immune response in the pleural cavity. Methods We investigated 1329 ...

DCCL: A Benchmark for Cervical Cytology Analysis

2019
Medical imaging analysis has witnessed impressive progress in recent years thanks to the development of large-scale labeled datasets. However, in many fields, including cervical cytology, a large well-annotated benchmark dataset remains missing. In this paper, we introduce by far the largest cervical cytology dataset, called Deep Cervical Cytological ...

Cytology and fluid analysis of the acute abdomen

Clinical Techniques in Small Animal Practice, 2003
In patients with acute abdominal pain, abdominal paracentesis and diagnostic peritoneal lavage often yield fluid samples for cytologic and biochemical evaluation. Cytology of the effusion from a patient with acute abdominal disease can be a crucial tool for the rapid diagnosis necessary for initiation of timely and appropriate therapy.

Cytological Analysis of Interference in Mouse Meiosis

2009
In most eukaryotes, meiotic crossovers (COs) are non-randomly placed along the bivalents, such that the presence of a CO reduces the probability of additional COs nearby. This phenomenon, named CO interference, was originally defined genetically, but can also be analyzed cytologically by studying the chromosomal positions of protein complexes that are ...

Analysis of False Negative Cytology by a Chromosome Study

Asia-Oceania Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1990
AbstractForty‐two cases of pre‐invasive and invasive cancer of the cervix diagnosed by histology were studied cytologically and cytogenetically. Preinvasive lesions showed a good correlation between the cytologic impression and the histologic diagnosis.

Cytological analysis and sorting of a human supernumerary minichromosome

Cytotechnology, 1987
In a newborn female, an abnormal karyotype, 46,XX/47,XX,+mar/47,XX,+9, was found associated with several malformations. The marker chromosome was present in 70% of peripheral blood lymphocytes, and its size appeared to be less than half of the smallest chromosomes.

Cytological and molecular analysis of centromere misdivision in maize

Genome, 2002
B chromosome derivatives suffering from breaks within their centromere were examined cytologically and molecularly. We showed by high resolution FISH that misdivision of the centromere of a univalent chromosome can occur during meiosis. The breaks divide the centromere repeat sequence cluster. A telocentric chromosome formed by misdivision was found to

Molecular and cytologic analysis of DNA amplification in retinoblastoma

Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics, 1985
Amplification of two distinct genomic DNA segments is observed in homogeneously staining regions in two sets of retinoblastoma cell lines derived from two different patients. One DNA segment was known to have sequence homology to the c-myc oncogene, and both DNA segments had previously been shown to be amplified in neuroblastoma cells.

Classifier ensemble for an effective cytological image analysis

Pattern Recognition Letters, 2013
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. As early detection is crucial for the patient's health, much attention has been paid to the development of tools for effective recognition of this disease. This article presents an application of image analysis and classification methods for fine needle biopsy.
