CD44v, S1PR1, HER3, MET and cancer‐associated amino acid transporters are promising targets for the pancreatic cancers characterized using mAb

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Novel mAbs could detect cancer‐associated membrane proteins on various type of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDAC) by flow cytometry with viable PDAC cells and by immunohistochemistry with PDAC tissues. Results of protein expression were substantiated by mRNA expression by The Cancer Genome Atlas.

Comparative Analysis of Nucleus Segmentation Techniques for Enhanced DNA Quantification in Propidium Iodide-Stained Samples

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Digitization in pathology and cytology labs is now widespread, a significant shift from a decade ago when few doctors used image processing tools. Despite unchanged scanning times due to excitation in fluorescent imaging, advancements in computing power ...

A potential tumor suppressor role of PLK2 in glioblastoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PLK2 was consistently downregulated in GBM tissues. Overexpression of PLK2 in GBM cell lines U87MG and U251 reduced their tumorigenic potential and enhanced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Suggesting that PLK2 overexpression could potentially be leveraged as a therapeutic strategy to inhibit tumor progression and enhance apoptosis, providing new ...

UVB-Radiation-Induced Apoptosis in Jurkat Cells: A Coordinated Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy-Flow Cytometry Study [PDF]

open access: yesRadiation Research 168, 698-705 (2007), 2010
We studied the induction of apoptosis in Jurkat cells by UVB radiation (wavelength 290-320 nm) at a dose of 310 mJ/cm^2. We combined Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy with flow cytometry to determine whether the combination of both techniques could provide new and improved information about cell modifications.

Acacetin reduces endoplasmic reticulum stress through the P‐eNOS/PERK signaling pathway to attenuate MGO‐induced vascular endothelial cell dysfunction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated a potential protective effect of acacetin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, against methylglyoxal (MGO)‐induced endothelial dysfunction in human umbilical vein endothelial cells and its mechanism of action. Acacetin can could inhibit MGO‐induced intracellular calcium ion influx, enhance the expression levels of phosphorylated ...

Hidden Markov Models on Variable Blocks with a Modal Clustering Algorithm and Applications [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Motivated by high-throughput single-cell cytometry data with applications to vaccine development and immunological research, we consider statistical clustering in large-scale data that contain multiple rare clusters. We propose a new hierarchical mixture model, namely Hidden Markov Model on Variable Blocks (HMM-VB), and a new mode search algorithm ...

Positive feedback loop between MAPK and aquaporin 7 regulates autophagy and apoptosis induced by palmitate in RIN‐m5f cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
T2DM is characterized by peripheral blood insulin resistance and progressive pancreatic β‐cell dysfunction. Here, we showed that AQP7, the only aquaglyceroporin protein, regulates autophagy and apoptosis in pancreatic β‐cells. We propose the existence of a positive feedback loop between MAPK signaling and AQP7 that regulates autophagy and apoptosis in ...

Papel da imunofenotipagem por citometria de fluxo no diagnóstico diferencial das pancitopenias e das linfocitoses The role of flow cytometer-based immunophenotyping in the differential diagnosis of pancytopenia and of lymphocytosis
