Evaluation of the effect of GM-CSF blocking on the phenotype and function of human monocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a multipotent cytokine that prompts the proliferation of bone marrow-derived macrophages and granulocytes.

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

The detrimental impact of seminal plasma on the quality of cryopreserved sperm in goat bucks: freezing–thawing as the most harmful step

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
IntroductionSeminal plasma (SP) from goat bucks must be removed before freezing for obtaining sperm surviving the cryopreservation process if egg yolk-or skimmed milk (SM)-based extenders are used.MethodsWe studied the effect of SP on goat sperm quality ...

The anticancer effect of the HDAC inhibitor belinostat is enhanced by inhibitors of Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The pan‐HDAC inhibitor belinostat increases the expression of the pro‐apoptotic proteins Bim, Puma, and Noxa and induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cell lines and patient‐derived tumor organoids when used at high concentrations. Moreover, inhibiting the anti‐apoptotic proteins Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 sensitizes these preclinical models to the cytotoxic effect

Systematic profiling of cancer‐fibroblast interactions reveals drug combinations in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Fibroblasts, cells in the tumor environment, support ovarian cancer cell growth and alter morphology and drug response. We used fibroblast and cancer cell co‐culture models to test 528 drugs and discovered new drugs for combination treatment. We showed that adding Vorinostat or Birinapant to standard chemotherapy may improve drug response, suggesting ...

High content image-based cytometry as a tool for nuclear fingerprinting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Cytomics aims at understanding the functional relationships between cellular phenotypes (cytome) and metabolic pathways (proteome) that result from a combination of genetically defined mechanisms (genome) and environmental conditions [1,2]. Although flow-

Guidelines for the use of flow cytometry and cell sorting in immunological studies (second edition)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, 2019
These guidelines are a consensus work of a considerable number of members of the immunology and flow cytometry community. They provide the theory and key practical aspects of flow cytometry enabling immunologists to avoid the common errors that often ...

Comprehensive omics‐based classification system in adult patients with B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The COMBAT classification system, developed through multi‐omics integration, stratifies adult patients with B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia(B‐ALL) into three molecular subtypes with distinct surface antigen patterns, immune landscape, methylation patterns, biological pathways and prognosis.
