Does neoadjuvant chemotherapy reduce surgical complexity in patients with advanced-stage epithelial ovarian cancer?

open access: yesBMC Women's Health
Background This study aimed to determine the effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) on the complex surgical procedures required in addition to staging surgery for the need to achieve a residual tumor 1 cm or less in a population of stage IIIC–IV ...

Peritoneal Metastatic Gastric Cancer: Local Treatment Options and Recommendations

open access: yesCurrent Oncology
Peritoneal metastasis is a common finding in patients with advanced gastric cancer. Beyond systemic chemotherapy, additive local treatments such as cytoreductive surgery and intraperitoneal chemotherapy are considered an inherent part of different ...

Renal cell carcinoma: An update for the practicing urologist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Systemic therapy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) has evolved drastically, with agents targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) now representing a standard of care. The present paper is to

Meta‐analysis of prognostic factors for patients with colorectal peritoneal metastasis undergoing cytoreductive surgery and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy

open access: yesBJS Open, 2019
Up to 15 per cent of colorectal cancers present with peritoneal metastases (CPM). Cytoreductive surgery and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS + HIPEC) aims to achieve macroscopic tumour resection combined with HIPEC to destroy microscopic disease.

On cabled knots, Dehn surgery, and left-orderable fundamental groups [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
Previous work of the authors establishes a criterion on the fundamental group of a knot complement that determines when Dehn surgery on the knot will have a fundamental group that is not left-orderable. We provide a refinement of this criterion by introducing the notion of a decayed knot; it is shown that Dehn surgery on decayed knots produces surgery ...

Comparison of two cardiac output monitors, qCO and LiDCO, during general anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Optimization of cardiac output (CO) has been evidenced to reduce postoperative complications and to expedite the recovery. Likewise, CO and other dynamic cardiac parameters can describe the systemic blood flow and tissue oxygenation state and

Chirally cosmetic surgeries and Casson invariants [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
We study chirally cosmetic surgeries, that is, a pair of Dehn surgeries on a knot producing homeomorphic 3-manifolds with opposite orientations. Several constraints on knots and surgery slopes to admit such surgeries are given. Our main ingredients are the original and the $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$ version of Casson invariants.
