Alloantigen-Activated CML Suppression Independent of Cytotoxic Activity

The Journal of Immunology, 1979
Abstract The generation of T cell-mediated lympholysis (CML) in murine mixed lymphocyte cultures (MLC) can be impeded if allogeneic responding and stimulating cells are incubated in the presence of lymphocytes that have been activated by prior exposure to alloantigens (1–6).

Antiproliferative and Cytotoxic Activities

2018
Cancer is a genetic disease, affecting many people worldwide. Chemotherapy is routinely used for cancer treatment. However, this therapeutic approach is not always effective due to the development of cell resistance and toxic effects. Plants are a reservoir of natural chemicals with chemoprotective potential against cancer and with low adverse effects.

Cytotoxic Activity of Tunicate Hemocytes

1996
Tunicates (protochordates) are filter-feeding marine invertebrates with a worldwide distribution. In their larval form, they exhibit many of the features characteristic of the vertebrates. The larva, with a tail, notochord, and dorsal neural tube, upon settlement undergoes a remarkable metamorphosis in which it loses most of its chordate ...

Ethanol activation of human natural cytotoxicity

Immunopharmacology, 1983
Human lymphocytes cultured with ethanol and subsequently assayed for natural killer (NK) activity to K562 cells have enhanced NK activity compared to lymphocytes cultured without exposure to ethanol. Optimal enhancement occurred at 0.64% (v/v) ethanol, and required several hours of culture.

Regulation of Natural Cytotoxic Activity

1982
DISCUSSION INTRODUCER GUSTAVO CUDKOWICZ: If naturally occurring cytotoxic cells are to fulfill an important biological function, they will be integrated and they will be regulated. Only in the last few years have studies been conducted on NK cell regulation.

Multiplex Caspase Activity and Cytotoxicity Assays

2008
Multiplexed assay chemistries provide for multiple measurements of cellular parameters within a single assay well. This experimental practice not only is more cost efficient but provides more informational content about a compound or treatment. For instance, multiplexed caspase activity assays can help establish the kinetics and magnitude of initiator ...

Monocyte mediated cytotoxic activity against melanoma

Melanoma Research, 1992
The appearance of macrophages in human tumours, the so called tumour-infiltrating or tumour-associated macrophages (TIM or TAM) has suggested a role for these cells in host defence mechanisms against cancer. In this review we discuss monocyte-mediated cytotoxic activity against melanoma, as reported by a number of different authors.

P38 Activation Mediates Amyloid-β Cytotoxicity

Neurochemical Research, 2005
Amyloid-beta is a leading candidate factor in the development of Alzheimer disease (AD), however the mechanisms involved are unclear. As such, there has been considerable interest in evidence showing that the neuronal damage caused by amyloid-beta is mediated by oxidative stress. Notably, oxidative stress leads to activation of stress-activated protein

Targeting and Activation of Cytotoxic Lymphocytes

2015

Macrophage Activation for Nonspecific Tumor Cytotoxicity

1980
Publisher Summary Increasing evidence suggests that the activated macrophage is the major effector of tumor surveillance, rather than the specifically immunologically active lymphocyte. This chapter focuses on agents that render macrophages nonspecifically, but selectively, tumoricidal, as well as factors that may interfere with their antitumor ...
