Crystal structure of a novel homodimeric l‐ribulose 3‐epimerase from Methylomonus sp.

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 11, Issue 6, Page 1621-1637, June 2021., 2021
d‐Allulose has potential as a low‐calorie sweetener which can suppress fat accumulation. The enzymes capable of d‐allulose production have attracted attention. Here, we report the X‐ray structure of a novel l‐ribulose 3‐epimerase from Methylomonas sp.

Toxicological Assessment of D-Allulose From a Novel One-Step Fermentation Process Using Genetically Modified Escherichia coli: A 90-Day Dietary Toxicity Study in Rats. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Toxicol
D‐Allulose is a rare monosaccharide structurally similar to D‐fructose, characterized by low caloric content and relatively high sweetness. This study aimed to conduct a 90‐day oral toxicity test to systemically evaluate the potential toxicological effects of D‐allulose produced via a novel one‐step fermentation process using genetically engineered ...

Biochemical analysis and the preliminary crystallographic characterization of d-tagatose 3-epimerase from Rhodobacter sphaeroides

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2017
Background d-Tagatose 3-epimerase epimerizes d-fructose to yield d-psicose, which is a rare sugar that exists in small quantities in nature and is difficult to synthesize chemically.

Exploring the Diversity of Sugar Compounds in Healthy, Prediabetic, and Diabetic Volunteers

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 64, Issue 9, May 2020., 2020
A pilot study with a broad sugar profiling analysis during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in the healthy and diabetic state is performed. Overall, 40 sugar compounds, including rare sugars, are detected in human plasma. A range of sugars reveal similar characteristic changes as glucose during an OGTT.

Preparation of a Flower-Like Immobilized D-Psicose 3-Epimerase with Enhanced Catalytic Performance

open access: yesCatalysts, 2018
In this present study, we proposed a smart biomineralization method for creating hybrid organic–inorganic nanoflowers using a Co2+-dependent enzyme (D-psicose 3-epimerase; DPEase) as the organic component and cobalt phosphate as the inorganic component ...

Update of the list of QPS‐recommended biological agents intentionally added to food or feed as notified to EFSA 11: suitability of taxonomic units notified to EFSA until September 2019

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 18, Issue 2, February 2020., 2020
Abstract Qualified presumption of safety (QPS) was developed to provide a generic safety evaluation for biological agents to support EFSA's Scientific Panels. The taxonomic identity, body of knowledge, safety concerns and antimicrobial resistance are assessed.

Expression of d-psicose-3-epimerase from Clostridium bolteae and Dorea sp. and whole-cell production of d-psicose in Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesAnnals of Microbiology, 2020
d-psicose-3-epimerase (DPEase) catalyses the isomerisation of d-fructose to d-psicose, a rare sugar in nature with unique nutritional and biological functions. An effective industrial-scale method is needed for d-psicose production.

Update: Enzymatische Synthese für industrielle Anwendungen

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 27, July 1, 2025.
