Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Effects of Dendrobium huoshanense polysaccharides on antioxidant capacity, mucosal barrier integrity and inflammatory responses in an aging rat ileal model

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2019
Polysaccharides are important pharmacologically active substances found in the perennial orchid Dendrobium huoshanense. In the present study, we sought to determine whether antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms were involved in Dendrobium ...

Matrine Attenuates D-Galactose-Induced Aging-Related Behavior in Mice via Inhibition of Cellular Senescence and Oxidative Stress

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, 2018
The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of matrine (MAT) on D-galactose- (D-gal-) induced aging and relative mechanism. Vitamin E at the dose of 100 mg/kg was used as a standard positive control.

Brevibacterium sandarakinum sp. nov., isolated from a wall of an indoor environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, non-endospore-forming, orange-pigmented (coloured) actinobacterium (01-Je-003T) was isolated from the wall of an indoor environment primarily colonized with moulds.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Peroxiredoxin 4 protects against ovarian ageing by ameliorating d-galactose-induced oxidative damage in mice

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2020
Peroxiredoxin 4 (Prdx4), a member of the Prdx family, is a vital ER-resident antioxidant in cells. As revealed in our previous study, Prdx4 expression was detected in ovarian granulosa cells and was closely related to ovarian function.

Examination of molecular mechanism for metabolism of lactose and D-galactose in the filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A bgaD/lacpA génpár élettani induktora a D-galaktóz, és nem a D-galaktóz lebontás valamelyik köztese. A LacpA és a LacpB transzporterek együttesen felelősek a laktóz sejtbe juttatásáért.

D-galactose-induced Animal Model of Male Reproductive Aging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aging is a complex biological process involving molecular, cellular and organic changes. Aging process is not merely caused by chronological age but it can be accelerated by environmental factors contributes to oxidative stress.

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

Improving effect of a probiotic mixture on memory and learning abilities in d-galactose-treated aging mice.

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2019
The aim of this study was to evaluate the antiaging effect of a probiotic mixture using an in vivo mouse model in which aging was induced with d-galactose.
