A Reaction of D-Glucosamine in the Presence of ‘Dry’ Protein

Nature, 1952
IN work on the reaction of reducing sugars with proteins in the ‘dry’ state already reported1, glucosamine (2-amino-D-glucose) was used as an aldo hexose modified at the important carbon 2 position. Browning of the reaction mixture was found to occur extremely rapidly; but the chemical data indicated that something quite different from the normal ...

[117] d-glucosaminic acid dehydrase

1966
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the determination of D-glucosaminic acid dehydrase. The dehydrase catalyzes the conversion of D-glucosaminic acid to 2-keto-3-deoxy-D-gluconie acid (KDG) and NH 3 . The α-keto acid is measured as its semicarbazone according to the procedure of MacGee and Doudoroff.

The phosphorylation of D-(+)-glucosamine by crystalline yeast hexokinase

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1951
d-glucosamine has been shown to be converted to a phosphorylated amino sugar by ATP in the presence of crystalline yeast hexokinase and magnesium ions. The rate of the reaction is approximately that observed for d-glucose. The turnover number of the enzyme for glucosamine is 12,000 moles/105 grams hexokinase/minute at pH 7.8 and 30°.
