Demystifying the D-loop during DNA recombination

Nature, 2020
Homologous recombination is a mechanism for DNA repair that enables the exchange of genetic information between DNA molecules. Structural analysis reveals how the protein RecA orchestrates this process. Structural data reveal how RecA protein orchestrates recombination.

Heterologous expression from the human D-Loop in organello

Mitochondrion, 2014
We report the expression of a linear reporter construct in isolated human mitochondria. The reporter construct contained the entire human D-Loop with adjacent tRNA (MTT) genes (mt.15956-647), the human ND1 gene with an in frame GFP gene and adjacent endogenous MTT genes and heterologous rat MTT genes.

Molecular alterations of mitochondrial D‐loop in oral leukoplakia

Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 2019
AbstractBackgroundOver the years, numerous studies proposed a crucial role of mutations of nuclear DNA in the carcinogenesis process. Of late, many researchers suppose that alterations of mitochondrial DNA should not be excepted from this analysis. Mutational analysis of mitochondrial DNA displayed that mitochondrial D‐loop is assessed as a hotspot for

Binding and Melting of D-Loops by the Bloom Syndrome Helicase

Biochemistry, 2000
Bloom syndrome is a rare autosomal disorder characterized by predisposition to cancer and genomic instability. BLM, the structural gene mutated in individuals with the disorder, encodes a DNA helicase belonging to the RecQ family of helicases. These helicases have been established to serve roles in both promoting and preventing recombination.

Establishing the mitochondrial DNA D‐loop structure of Columba livia

ELECTROPHORESIS, 2009
AbstractThe complete mitochondrial DNA D‐loop structure of pigeon (Columba livia) was established in this study. A strategy of amplifying three partial fragments of the D‐loop and then combing the three fragments to cover the full length of the D‐loop was adopted.

A New Operation for d-Loop Transposition of the Great Vessels

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1975
Transposition of the great vessels remains a major problem for the cardiac surgeons. Although the Mustard (intraatrial baffle) procedure has provided the means for physiological correction of this anomaly, there are many complications that plague the lives of the survivors.

Association of genetic variations in the mitochondrial D-loop with β-thalassemia

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
Beta-thalassemia, one of the most common single-gene disorders, is the result of reduced or absent production of β-globin chains. Patients with β-thalassemia show weak genotype-phenotype correlations. Mitochondrial DNA polymorphisms are a potential source for different physiological and pathological characteristics and have been found to be associated ...

Polymorphic sequence in the D‐loop region of equine mitochondrial DNA

Animal Genetics, 1994
SummaryThe D‐loop regions in equine mitochondrial DNA were cloned from three thoroughbred horses by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The total number of bases in the D‐loop region were 1114bp, 1115bp and 1146bp. The equine D‐loop region is A/T rich like many other mammalian D‐loops.

A nuclear 'fossil' of the mitochondrial D-loop and the origin of modern humans

Nature, 1995
Mammalian mitochondrial DNA sequences evolve more rapidly than nuclear sequences. Although the rapid rate of evolution is an advantage for the study of closely related species and populations, it presents a problem in situations where related species, used as outgroups in phylogenetic analyses, have accumulated so much change that multiple ...
