D-Penicillamine-Induced Severe Pneumonitis

Chest, 1982
We report the first histologically described case of severe D-penicillamine-induced pneumonitis. It occurred in a 73-year-old woman who suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and had previously demonstrated gold intolerance. Pathologic study disclosed marked interstitial and alveolar damage resembling that described with certain chemotherapeutic agents. We

D-Penicillamine and Enzymatic Activities

Enzyme, 1978
The influence of incubation with D-penicillamine on pure enzyme preparations and on enzymatic activities of serum and skin homogenates was investigated. Three of the nine enzymatic activities studied underwent significant changes. Such effects of D-penicillamine must be taken into consideration if therapeutic or unwanted actions of this drug are to be ...

D‐penicillamine‐induced lupus erythematosus

Arthritis & Rheumatism, 1990
AbstractWe describe a patient who presented with polyarthritis, pleurisy, rash, and a positive antinuclear antibody result after 5 years of D‐penicillamine therapy. D‐penicillamine‐induced antinuclear antibodies were mainly high‐titer IgG directed against the (H2A‐H2B)‐DNA complex. Weak IgM activity with H1 and H2B was also observed.

D-Penicillamine-Induced Oesophageal Ulcers

Acta Clinica Belgica, 1989
A patient on treatment with D-penicillamine developed aphthoid ulcers of the oesophagus, which healed rapidly after withdrawal of this drug. The mechanism of these probably drug-induced oesophageal ulcerations is discussed.

D‐Penicillamine—Production and Properties

Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English, 1975
AbstractThe non‐naturally occurring amino acidD‐penicillamine, originally only of interest as a key substance in the structural elucidation and total synthesis of penicillins is gaining increasing importance as a therapeutic, particularly in the long‐term treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.D‐Penicillamine which previously was obtained semi‐synthetically

Experimental D-penicillamine-induced myopathy

Biochemical Society Transactions, 1996
The trifunctional amino acid D-penicillamine (D-P) is commonly used to treat rheumatoid arthritis as well as scleroderma, cystinuria and Wilson’s disease. Adverse reactions are observed in between half and two thirds of subjects undergoing chronic treatment with this agent [I] . The development of a skeletal muscle myopathy is one of the reactions to D-

D-Penicillamine-Induced Bronchial Spasm

Southern Medical Journal, 1980
Although d-penicillamine has a wide range of benefits in many clinical conditions, various side effects have also been reported and preclude its further use in certain patients. In this case, d-penicillamine-induced reversible airway obstruction developed, despite the "go slow--go low" regimen as suggested to reduce the incidence of its side effects ...

Acrodynia Treated With D-Penicillamine

Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1968
IN AUGUST, 1966, Warkany1reviewed the history of pink disease in an article entitled "Acrodynia: Postmortem of a Disease." The view that acrodynia is extinct may not be correct as shown by recent reports emanating from America and Britain.2-7In discussing the contribution of Bilderbeck to the elucidation of the cause of acrodynia, Warkany made the ...

Pemphigus Vulgaris Following D-Penicillamine

Dermatology, 1976
A 54-year-old woman with systemic sclerosis developed clinical, histo-pathologic and immunopathologic findings consistent with pemphigus vulgaris after 8 months treatment with D-penicillamine. The course of the bullous disease required sustained steroid treatment.

D-penicillamine in rheumatoid arthritis

The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 1986
D-penicillamine (D-pen) has gained wide-spread use as a potent suppressor of disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA). The drug has been established for antirheumatoid therapy on the basis of a considerable number of comparative clinical studies of D-pen treatment versus placebo or other disease modifying ...
