Marine heatwaves (MHWs) and eutrophication are driving coral reefs toward algal dominance. Herbivorous fishes are thought to help slow this shift by feeding on fast‐growing and often invasive, herbivore‐resistant algae, but our experiments show their ability to do so declines under prolonged thermal stress.
