Stochastic Fatigue Damage Accumulation

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1984
A study is made of several aspects of the problem of predicting fatigue failure by using the Palmgren‐Miner (PM) approximation, with cycles defined by the rainflow procedure. The stress time history is considered to be a stationary stochastic process, and the term fatigue is considered to refer to crack initiation or crack propagation, or both.

Markovian modeling of seismic damage accumulation

Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 2015
SummaryAnalysis of civil structures at the scale of life‐cycle requires stochastic modeling of degradation. Phenomena causing structures to degrade are typically categorized as aging and point‐in‐time overloads. Earthquake effects are the members of the latter category this study deals with in the framework of performance‐based earthquake engineering ...

Model of Fatigue Damage Accumulation

Key Engineering Materials, 2014
In this paper, the analytical method of fatigue life estimation of gear teeth is proposed. The computational model of fatigue damage accumulation was built using the adequate NASGRO 2/3 formula, moreover Formans and Paris-Erdogans laws were utilized for comparison. The ranges of stress intensity factor were determined using the boundary element method.

Vibration-Based Damage Accumulation Modeling

Volume 8: 28th Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 2016
A simple methodology is presented which takes input data from wireless accelerometers used in continuous monitoring of large numbers of machines such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, and fans, and outputs a damage accumulation metric which can be used for early warning indication for a broad range of faults.

Fatigue damage accumulation around notches

Materials Testing, 2004
Abstract Notched compact tension specimens of type 304 stainless steel (notch tip radius of 1 mm and 4 mm) were low-cycle-fatigued at stress ratio R = −1 and 0.05 in order to investigate the through-thickness fatigue damage accumulation around the notch.

Damage accumulation in structures

Reliability Engineering, 1987
Four types of defect are described, and the hierarchical nature of shape, form and material is explored. Defects and failure are also shown to be hierarchical, and a structure's damage is defined as the sum of its defects. The concept of material toughness is linked to structural redundancy. Damage is described in two ways: geometrically and materially,
