Damage Accumulation Techniques in Damage Tolerance Analysis

1984
Damage tolerance analysis requires the capability to assess the damage, usually measured by incremental crack growth, accumulating in a given piece of structure under flight-by-flight spectrum loading. This requirement implies the need to process this damage accumulation over thousands of flights consisting of millions of load cycles.

Unconventional reflections on damage accumulation

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1976
Abstract Certain implications of Miner's rule are revealed a priori as leading to inaccurate and even contradictory results. This is due to incompatibility with basic physical laws. A part of these imperfections can be ruled out by a new method of accumulated damage calculation.

Deformation Based Fatigue Damage Accumulation Model

Solid State Phenomena, 2015
This paper reports results of fatigue testing performed under fully reversible, load controlled uniaxial tension-compression. For this scheme of loading definition of relative damage indicator and cumulative damage indicator parameter was given and changes of such parameters during the life of the material were shown for two grades of steel.

Markov exchangeable damage accumulation model

36th Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 1995
Following the Bayesian paradigm, we derive the likelihood of inspection data conditional on the parameter of interest-the lifetime. The inspection data collect,ed in service thus provides sequential updating of our prediction. The prior distribution of the lifetime parameters can be constructed using laboratory dat,a.

Damage assessment of unreinforced masonry buildings incorporating damage accumulation

Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics
AbstractRecent earthquakes have shown susceptibility of unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings to damage accumulation in seismic sequences or long duration ground motions. Current structural modelling approaches commonly disregard the damage accumulation in URM buildings or they are unable to accurately capture this phenomenon unless sophisticated FEM ...

Experimental investigation of fatigue damage accumulation

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1972
IN 1945, M. A. Miner presented his approach for cumulative damage in metal fatigue to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In this approach, the expended life of a specimen is defined to be equal to the summation of the number of cycles that are applied at each different stress level when expressed as a percentage of the number of cycles that ...

Crack Growth and Damage Accumulation

1998
Five papers among the contributions presented at the NATO workshop PROBAMAT-21st CENTURY cover Fracture and Fatigue, a very broad spectrum. The papers are not homogeneous but offer an update of problems, tools and applications in a branch of material science which represents a necessary link toward engineering.

Damage accumulation in hydrogen-implanted silicon

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1986
Abstract A phenomenological model has been developed to describe the evolution of the damage distribution in silicon implanted with hydrogen ions. The model includes annealing, stabilization of damage by hydrogen trapping, hydrogen detrapping and diffusion.
