Neurocognitive, School‐Based, and Quality of Life Outcomes for Youth With Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia: A Scoping Review

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The medical burdens of sickle cell disease (SCD) and transfusion‐dependent β‐thalassemia (TDT) are chronic and cumulative, even in children. Yet the effects expand beyond medications and healthcare visits due to their impacts on school attendance, academic performance, and peer engagement.

Experimental investigation on damage mechanism of GFRP laminates embedded with/without steel wire mesh under low-velocity-impact and post-impact tensile loading

open access: yese-Polymers
To investigate the impact behavior and residual strength of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) laminates embedded with/without steel wire mesh, low-velocity-impact (LVI) and post-impact tensile tests are conducted carefully.

Safety of Daprodustat for the Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease Anemia: Final Analysis of a Multicenter Postmarketing Surveillance Study in Japan

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This final analysis of a multicenter, prospective postmarketing surveillance study evaluated the safety of daprodustat in patients with chronic kidney disease anemia in routine clinical practice in Japan. Methods Patients who initiated daprodustat between September 2020 and July 2022 were registered.

Study on mechanical properties and microscopic damage mechanism of tight sandstone reservoir under uniaxial compression

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2023
Due to the characteristics of low porosity, low permeability and serious anisotropy in tight reservoirs, it is difficult for conventional hydraulic fracturing theory to accurately guide the efficient exploitation of tight reservoirs.

Effect of DFPP on Ferroptosis in Peripheral Blood CD14+ Monocytes of Hyperlipidemic Patients Involving the ACSL4/LPCAT3/ALOX5 Pathway

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although statins are the cornerstone of lipid‐lowering therapy, their use may be limited in some patients by adverse effects. This study evaluated the possible impact of non‐drug treatment using double‐filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) on CD14+

Quantification of complex DNA damage by ionising radiation: An experimental and theoretical approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.Ionising radiation potentially produces a broad spectrum of damage in DNA including single and double strand breaks (ssb and dsb) and base damages.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Crosslinking effect on the deformation and fracture of monodisperse polystyrene-co-divinylbenzene particles

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2013
This study focuses on the effect of crosslinking density on the mechanical response of polystyrene-co-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) particles under compression by means of nanoindentation-based flat punch method combined with SEM observation of particle ...
